Job Description:
The Senior Vice President for Operations and Finance at Iowa State University seeks an innovative, creative and collaborative leader for its Associate Vice President (AVP) for Institutional Financial Strategy.
This position is responsible for the leadership, overall vision, and direction of the budget and planning for all financial resources that support Iowa Stateâs missions as a land-grant institution. The AVP will lead a team with representatives from the organizationâs four divisions to develop policy, procedure and process for budget and planning that leads to integrated decision-making by all budget leaders.
The Associate Vice President reports to and advises the Senior Vice President for Operations and Finance and is a thought leader who develops and implements an institutional financial strategy that is grounded in transparency, creates incentives to grow resources while managing costs, encourages innovation, and aligns resources with the institution’s strategic vision and goals. This position plays a critical role in leading budgeting, financial analysis, modeling, and planning that clearly show resource availability, thereby facilitating administrators’ ability to enact plans to achieve the institutional vision.
The ideal candidate will bring significant experience overseeing budgeting and planning, financial forecasting and analysis, gained through increasingly responsible roles in comparably complex settings. The AVP recommends policies and procedures and subsequently monitors revenues and expenditures of all authorized budgets to encourage expansion of the institution’s resource base and ensure adherence to policies and procedures, as well as prudent and mission-consistent use of unexpended funds.
The AVP is responsible for stewarding the organization’s commitment to building a positive, productive and healthy work environment for staff; providing exceptional service to university customers; and demonstrating a personal commitment to positive and inclusive leadership practices that enable the team to serve the institution effectively. This requires exceptional communication skills, as well as a commitment to service and effective business processes.
