The VP-Partnerships works with the CEO, COO, Senior VP for Corporate Development, and business unit leads to define corporate initiatives that will be in the form of strategic partnership. The VP-Partnerships will help evaluate and advise business units regarding structure of how to work with partners to include type of legal entity to be involved, any reseller relationships, data and intellectual property rights, regulatory issues that arise in the healthcare context, and the like. The VP-Partnership will collaboratively develop and execute the upon partnerships needed to grow Premier’s various business units and will coordinate with the SPV of Corporate Development and other members of the Corporate Development team in the event an investment is required for a partnership.

The position is also accountable to participate in the identification, evaluation and selection of strategic partners that may better serve Premier as a potential acquisition and he/she will be involved in the strategic planning of Premier along with the VP of Strategy.

The VP-Partnerships will work with the VP-Strategy to ensure we can help the business units by providing direction, establishing priorities, for acquisitions and partnerships that are in-line with Premier strategy. The VP-Partnership will be expected to stay abreast of current events in healthcare and be able to help identify and analyze competitive and market intelligence, benchmarking and comparative industry information so Premier’s strategic partnerships anticipate changes in the competitive landscape.

Business Development/Partnership Execution

  • Lead Premier’s strategic partnerships
  • Provide thought leadership around the identification and development of new partners to ensure financial strength (and growth), provide unique and satisfying member value
  • Lead and facilitate the end-to-end partnership processes that drive alignment and rapid but thoughtful decision making.
  • Meet no less than monthly with SVP Corporate Development to review strategic partnerships and to prioritize accordingly
  • Participate in the development of Board and executive presentations that synthesize strategic positioning relative to the strategic partnerships
  • Manage and assist units with market landscape and environmental analyses for strategic partnerships

Leadership

  • Oversee the direction of strategic partnerships for Premier ensuring alignment with Premier overall strategy
  • Establish department priorities and work processes
  • Guide overall knowledge transfer and internal customer service delivery for partnership process

Business Development / M&A

  • Analyze and recommend new business opportunities for Premier and its business units
  • Identify, evaluate, recommend, and assist in the execution of strategic acquisitions. Activities include:
  • Scanning for new opportunities (relying on “leads” from sources such as industry conferences, industry contacts, field staff, business intelligence, product managers, field staff, business unit leaders and other internal subject matter experts)
  • Assessing strategic opportunity for Premier (lead independently and in cross-functional teams)
  • Performing due diligence and valuation to support acquisitions
  • Developing recommendations and gaining approval from Senior Executives

Education & Work Experience

12 or more years of applicable experience required, 15 years preferred

5+ years of strategic planning, investment and /or business development; strong analytical foundation (Finance, Accounting, etc); experience in negotiating successful partnerships for large organizations strongly prefer significant partnership experience, assessing potential partnerships and investments

Licensure or Certification: JD

  • Familiarity with transactional processes/tools; e.g. due diligence, partnership structures, management, etc.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage staff; prioritize and direct work, mentor and evaluate performance of manager-level staff.
  • Strong in collaborative influence to partner closely with E-Team members to drive engagement and focus on the strategy and business plan processes.
