Position Overview

The Vice President, Automation is an experienced, future-focused, senior leader responsible for developing and implementing a next generation, state-of-the-art automation roadmap for Adaptive’s high throughput, CAP/CLIA high-complexity molecular diagnostic laboratory and associated assays and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop short and long-term strategy for Adaptive’s automation.
  • Create strategic roadmap and aggressive implementation plan for high efficiency laboratory systems:
  • Lab/Accessioning: Develop state-of-the-art, end-to-end holistic solutions for best-in-class automation to enable massive scale up of lab processing capabilities.
  • Manufacturing: Design and develop automation for efficient manufacturing systems.
  • Supply Chain: Develop solutions to enable modern/automated supply chain management.
  • Assay R&D: Optimize research and development of state-of-the-art molecular assays and extraction methodologies for quality, throughput and automation.
  • QC: Design and develop in-process Quality Control measures for high-throughput operations.
  • Incorporate Lean/5S management into process design.
  • Generate software system requirements for incorporation with automation.
  • Design solutions that are compliant with CLIA/CAP/FDA/ISO/other regulatory requirements.
  • Develop an integrated operating model for automation team, working cross-functionally with research, develop, lab operations, software and operational excellence (LEAN), to ensure optimal end-to-end solutions.
  • Lead and mentor team responsible for designing, developing, implementing and supporting state-of the art laboratory automation, defining appropriate goals and metrics to achieve success.
  • Partner with business owners to identify and prioritize areas for improvement in current lab processes that will positively contribute to throughput, turn-around-time, cost and quality.

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in Automation Engineering
  • Demonstrated history of working in the diagnostics industry with specific track record of success in high throughput, high-complexity, clinical laboratories. Strong knowledge of genomics, NGS and general-purpose liquid handling required.
  • Successful background collaborating with both research and development, as well as laboratory operations teams.
  • Ability to be both strategic and detail-focused with strong critical/strategic thinking skills.
  • Experience managing complex projects, preferably under design control and in compliance with CLIA, CAP, FDA, ISO and/or other relevant regulations.
  • Extensive experience managing teams, including strong leadership of both matrixed teams and direct reports.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Genomics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant advanced degree preferred.
