Trystar is a leader in portable and permanent power distribution solutions. Under the direction of the Manufacturing Operations Leader, the Trystar Distro Assembly Value Stream Manager will be responsible for managing the people safety, quality, & value stream compliance and will ensure the achievement of key SQDIC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Cost) performance metrics within all work cells in their defined value stream. This manager will leverage their team to perform in a variety of cross functional areas including: other value streams, total quality management, production planning & scheduling, shipping/receiving, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, & the transformation of the value stream into a lean culture that leads to the elimination of waste which results in productivity and continuous improvement ultimately supporting our customers & business stakeholders. The role will provide leadership to effectively & efficiently operate production activities as well as provide support towards company initiatives and continuously improve all processes while working with other departments as necessary to support these goals.
As Trystar’s Value Stream Manager – Distro Assembly you will:
- Lead, develop and execute operational strategies incorporating lean principles to achieve Value Stream KPI’s while working in partnership with engineering, planning/scheduling, supply chain, logistics, IT, sales, & other business functions.
- Ownership over operating a safe working environment for all employees, including lead-by-example, on-the-spot rectification of safety hazards and timely incident reporting.
- Create a culture of accountability and empowerment in the production environment.
- Responsible for all aspects of managing the Value Stream to include: developing, coaching & mentoring team leaders & associates, ensure that team input is used to thoroughly evaluate decisions, ensure that decisions are rapidly implemented, employment decisions related to associates and performance assessment of all direct reports, team leaders and associates.
- Ensure standard work is available, kept current & strictly followed throughout the value stream.
- Ownership of compliance and accuracy for values and proper usage of the ERP / MRP system.
- Accountable for “wall-to-wall” KPI (Key Performance Indicator) performance of the value stream.
- Be a change agent and drive discipline in utilizing the tools for 6-sigma, Lean, and Continue Improvement processes.
- Drives 5S accountability within the value stream with a drive to eliminate waste & drive continuous improvement.
- Escalate major issues and opportunities to Operations Leadership via tiered escalation process.
- Facilitate and support the identification, selection, and prioritization of expansion and process improvement projects.
- Maintains current value stream map for use in cycle time and waste reduction activities.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, resolving problems and treating all employees fair.
- Lead the Value Stream in daily operations and continuous improvements which include but are not limited to supply chain, production planning, maintenance, establishing manufacturing priorities, coordination of activities with off -shift management and order shipments. Emphasize the creation of continuous product flow, utilize pull systems where flow is not currently possible, and work to level the workload.
- Ensure Value Stream Team Leader(s) provide effective cross-training for the production workforce, including backups from other areas to assure a continuous, smooth running Value Stream. This training is the foundation of a culture that stops to fix problems in order to get quality right the first time.
- Ensure proper use of tools such as Rapid Problem Solving, Root Cause Corrective Action, etc. to ensure product quality meets customer expectations.
- Instill and maintain a positive can-do team atmosphere within the Value Stream; holding regular team meetings and assigning team members tasks and coordinate support services needed outside the team.
- Utilize Plan-Do-Check-Act in conjunction with the Tier Accountability Meetings and Team Improvement Boards to ensure results.
- Work with the other members of manufacturing operations staff to develop the future state value stream map and manage the plans to achieve it.
Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in technical field or Operations Management or 5+ years of production experience required
- Good attention to detail while seeing the big picture / vision
- Strong leadership, team and people management skills
- Strong/effective communications skills
- Ability to multitask and set priorities
- Analytical and computer skills Experience with Epicor ERP / MRP or Similar ERP system
- Electromechanical Assembly of distribution, electrical, or similar panel experience a plus
- Ability to effectively manage
- Thrives in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Experience working in lean/six sigma production environment
- Bi-lingual English / Spanish language capability preferred
