As a team member/owner at MEC, you will lead all strategic initiatives related to employee benefits, ensuring high quality, fair and competitive policies, cost, and return on investment. A role like this comes with some important responsibilities, some of those responsibilities include:

  • Leads the tactical administration of all benefit programs and policies
  • Responsible for the research, design, presentation, and selection of a full spectrum of company benefits programs and associated policies including health and welfare benefits, work site benefits, disability programs and flexible spending accounts.
  • Actively stays abreast of the latest and greatest in benefit initiatives and pursues new and novel approaches to reduce health care spend across all locations.
  • Evaluates plans to ensure that they are competitive, properly administered, in compliance and meeting the needs of employees.
  • Recommends and implements short and long-term strategies to ensure that the benefit plans are aligned with the achievement of organizational goals.
  • Engages with outside broker on a “fee for project” basis as needed and takes the lead on selecting and managing third party vendors, focusing on quality of service and cost effectiveness/ROI.
  • Owns the data and deeply analyzes our health care spend, looks for trends, cost differences between doctors and facilities.
  • Engages with our employee shareholders on wellness, preventive care, doctor/facility selection based on outcomes and cost.

What Does It Take to Be a Fit for This Role?

  • Deep analytical experience gained at either a health insurance company and/or broker.
  • BA/BS degree in business management or human resources manager or equivalent. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 7-10 years of working experience in designing, administering and managing complex benefits program for a publicly traded company and/or in a manufacturing setting. At least three years at the managerial level.
  • CEBs or REBC and/or PHR/SPHR certification preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to build relationships at all levels within the organization, including MEC’s executive management team.
  • Excellent project management and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce high-level work product within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
