Job Title: Windows Desktop Engineer

Overview

The Desktop Engineering team design and engineer Windows desktop builds for all physical and virtual platforms and this function defines global hardware standards for desktop devices as well as OS configuration and patching. The role involves working within the Desktop Engineering team focusing on Windows 10 core technologies, and builds for physical and virtual environments. Until the migration to Windows 10 is complete, the role may will involve minor updates to the Windows 7 platform. The Desktop, Mobility and Print team within End User Computing focuses on Core Desktop, Remote Desktop and Software Development & Testing Services. Stable and secure desktop platforms are the foundations to enable users to perform their roles in today’s challenging environment and users require access to desktops, both local and remote, along with predictable and scalable deployment tools for delivering applications to these platforms.

What You’ll Do:

  • You will be the technical owner and escalation path for supported technologies
  • Design, create, deploy and troubleshoot windows client builds and virtualized platform templates in an enterprise environment
  • Design, create, deploy and troubleshoot core Windows technologies such as Group Policy, roaming profiles, offline files and folder redirection
  • Competency in admin scripting e.g. PowerShell, VBScript and Batch files
  • Create documentation and communicate to people at different technical levels
  • Microsoft SCCM for patching and OS deployment

Skills You’ll Need:

  • Position held within a Desktop Engineering team for a highly regulated, global enterprise
  • Ability to work within a technical team
  • Self-motivated and ability to prioritize tasks, projects and follow accepted process and procedure

Skills That Will Help You Excel:

  • Infrastructure knowledge e.g. AD, DFS, DNS, WAN, SAN and DHCP
  • Experience with defining end user hardware products
  • Microsoft 365
