The Role

Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a talented engineer to join our Protective Design leadership team. For this position, you will have a strong background in structural and blast engineering, and anti-terrorism/force protection design and consulting. To succeed in this position, you must be highly adaptable and demonstrate excellent initiative to develop client relationships, generate business, manage projects and support current leadership in providing oversight on project delivery and financial management.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new and nurture existing client relationships in physical security/protective design consulting.
  • Provide physical security/protective design consulting services for new and existing construction. Physical security topics include, but are not limited to, blast design, ballistic / forced entry design, site layout, progressive collapse, and design of vehicle barriers.
  • Provide leadership, direction and coordination to technical project teams.
  • Collaborate with in-house multidisciplinary staff across many geographical/office locations.
  • Maintain quality assurance program, and lead/participate in internal initiatives related to the advancement of analytical tools and development of best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and solutions to clients and project teams
  • Manage project budgets, schedules and staffing.
  • Provide financial oversight of projects.

Qualifications:

  • MS degree in Structural Engineering.
  • P.E. or S.E license.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in protective design/blast engineering.
  • Strong existing client relationships.
  • Strong client management skills and business development experience.
  • Experience in managing financial and technical aspects of projects and staff.
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of common government security standards and documents.
  • Ability to travel. The long term work location will be the Chicago, IL office. However, training, internal meetings, and project meetings will require periods of time spent in other locations.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented.
  • Ability to gain and hold U.S. Security Clearance.
