Summary:
The VP will direct and develop Director and Manager level department heads in the Technical Services and Project Management areas which includes support personnel in the field and in-house. Responsibility for overall fiscal budgets and manpower for those areas ensuring projects are kept on schedule and on budget. Develop procedures/policies which promote positive client experiences, increases service revenues, reduces costs, improves competitive position and enhances staff involvement.

Time Utilization:
This position may travel up to 30% of the time – mostly for service support pertaining to the Technical Services group and new business development opportunities and/or visits to the International factories and occasional trade shows. Normal business hours are 8:30am to
5:00pm. Schedule needs to be flexible to accommodate customer demands and schedules including weekends.

Compensation:
Commensurate with previous experience and proven results from a similar position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Develop, direct and evaluate the Technical Services and Project Management areas in multiple sites in relation to overall customer service delivery, manpower staffing, fiscal performance, and budgets.
  • Demonstrate effective utilization of the technical services team. Develop a ‘first rate’ technical customer support group ensuring Best in Class level of service in the field, and multiple sites. Create achievable individual and team goals which includes skills training, documentation, and follow-ups.
  • The VP of Engineering and Technical Services will also have responsibility for Project Management. The project management team is responsible for initiating, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling and closing complex integrated automated packaging line projects. The project management team focuses on managing the scope, cost, quality, schedule and customer satisfaction over the life cycle of the project.
  • Develop and implement follow-up protocols for all installs and technical service calls in multiple sites. Build a system where less than Best in Class service is flagged and immediately addressed.
  • Create a fluid system which captures equipment changes along with establishing a method of communications of these changes to all pertinent parties for proper configuration and change management.
  • Deploy Lean projects, like 5S, to improve efficiencies.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the Company by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the technical service organization. Evaluate current systems and propose new or additional technologies that will generate higher efficiencies and enhanced reporting/tracking capabilities for substantial ROI.
  • Execute our Smart Connected Controls strategy.
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective leader of people and a developer of solutions to business challenges.
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality customer service while managing current and future growth.
  • Support and motivate the entire Technical Services infrastructure to enhance profitability, productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Increase efficiencies and consistency throughout the technical service organization by developing, improving and implementing standardized programs and services.
  • Develop long and short range financial plans for technical service in a manner that supports the overall Company’s direction.
  • Working with the Sales team to promote and enhance the overall ‘Service’ and ‘after service’ sales efforts.
  • Stay abreast of pertinent changes with equipment suppliers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of critical or competitive information.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution and over ten years of industry related experience; related service or support experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

A leader who had the ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and develop people and systems with sound decision making skills.

Excellent coalition building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; a persuasive negotiator able to achieve consensus amongst differing opinions. A strong relationship builder.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal documents, technical descriptions and specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and write proposals, routine reports and correspondence and respond appropriately to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present technical information to groups of customers or associates of organization.

Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pricing structures, foreign exchange conversions, package geometry, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software, Internet software, Contact Management systems and Database software. Must be proficient in the use of the MS Office Suite and Windows platform. Working knowledge of FileMaker Pro would be a big plus.

Certificates and Licenses:
Current valid driver’s license and a passport and/or the ability to obtain a passport for travel as required by position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Several direct managerial reports including the Technical Services Directors; and Director of Project Management in multiple locations.
