    Summary

    This position is part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The incumbent will be responsible for managing a diverse group of duties and responsibilities in support of the Director and agency mission.

    Responsibilities

    As a SPECIAL ADVISOR TO THE DIRECTOR at the GS-0301-13/14 some of your typical work assignments may include:

    • Responsible for creative thinking, new initiatives, and new partnerships across the Agency, DoD, U.S. interagency, industry, and international community, in collaboration with Directorate Directors, and Staff Offices as appropriate.
    • Directly supports the DTRA Director in development and implementation of DTRA strategy, objectives, priorities, budget, and cross-Agency initiatives.
    • Prepares and reviews narrative presentations, fact sheets, information papers, graphs, and charts which provide basis for decisions, program objectives and presentations during meetings and in the direct support of the Director and the mission of the Agency. Researches and develops material for use in reports, presentations, and speeches to senior DoD, U.S. interagency, and international officials.
    • Facilitates solutions internal to the Agency by developing courses of action, discovering engagement opportunities, integrating lessons learned, and facilitating accomplishment of appropriate deliverables for meeting the Director’s intent for subject engagements.
    • Enables solutions external to Agency through collaborating with senior leadership, Directorate Directors and other high level officials outside of the Agency.
    • Provides insights and recommendations to the Director on high priority, highly visible actions to include the assessment of emerging threats and global challenges and the associated DTRA response, in collaboration with Directorate Directors as appropriate.
    • Facilitates strategic communications between the Director and external Stakeholders in collaboration with internal stakeholders.

    You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

    A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:

    • Subject Matter Expert in either Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction or Counter Improvised Threats.
    • Specialized expertise in Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction or Counter Improvised Threat initiatives or activities with Combatant Command.
    • Identifying complex or difficult issues to coordinate solution development and collaborate with high-level officials across the Agency, DoD, interagency, or the international community

    You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

    B. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:

    • Subject Matter Expert in either Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction or Counter Improvised Threats.
    • Specialized expertise in Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction or Counter Improvised Threat initiatives or activities with Combatant Command
    • Identify complex issues to coordinate solution development with staff across the Agency, DoD, interagency, or international community

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Education

    Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
