Project Manager

The Project Manager will be responsible for the implementation of project-specific communications and public participation activities to ensure key stakeholders are kept well-informed of a variety of technical/science-based projects and have the opportunity to provide input at key project milestones. This position works under the direct supervision of the Communications Manager and works closely with the Senior Project Manager and Community Relations/Administrative Specialist on project-specific strategies and tasks to ensure high-quality communications and outreach are provided in a timely and professional manner.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Manager will develop and implement a variety of public participation and communications deliverables to ensure key internal and external stakeholders are well informed across a project’s lifecycle. As part of this, the Project Manager will be required to set-up and attend a variety of community meetings and provide community relations support in the field as needed. Occasional travel, nights and weekend work will be required. When not in the field or at meetings, it is expected that the Project Manager will work out of the Oakland office.

Strategic Project Support

  • Prepare and implement communications plans for a variety of remediation, development and web/media service projects for corporate, government and nonprofit clients
  • Develop, distribute and maintain print and electronic collateral, including but not limited to fact sheets, newsletters, websites, social media, press releases, banners/signage, etc. that are mistake free and grammatically correct
  • Coordinate and facilitate public meetings, community events, groundbreakings, etc., including coordinating with the client and Community Relations/Administrative Specialist on room registration/set-up, catering, AV equipment, scheduling, signage, etc.

Community Relations

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Conduct field support activities, including neighborhood canvassing, facilitating community meetings, stakeholder presentations, etc.
  • Be the first point-of-contact for community members’ questions and concerns, ensuring they are relayed to the appropriate member of the project team and an answer is provided in a timely fashion

Administration

  • Maintains a professional office environment and demeanor at all times
  • Assists with special projects and assumes responsibility for the development, administration and promotion of said projects, as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, English or a related field required
  • Minimum of three years’ experience providing communications support to internal and external stakeholders in support of technical/science-based projects
  • Excellent written, editing and verbal communication skills, including the ability to master complex issues and convey information clearly to varied audiences
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet fast-paced and changing deadlines
  • Must be highly motivated and team-oriented
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent customer service skills that can be applied to both external and client relationship building
  • Solid computer experience including a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and technically proficiency in social media platforms, website design platforms, email campaigns/event invite platforms and CRM software
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish speaker preferred
