Job Summary

This role sets the strategic direction of Bristol West while leading the organization to achieve business goals and objectives. Overall responsibilities include product management, actuarial, policy processing, business support services and claims. Works closely with heads of critical functions such as the Head of IA. Distribution and Head of Service Operations in order to achieve results stated above.

Essential Job Functions
  • Create and achieve Bristol West strategic vision
  • Coordinate Bristol West strategies and tactics with other Bu’s
  • Ensure BW underwriting profitability
  • Ensure BW business operating profit
  • Promote Gross Written Premium growth
  • Setting and achieving budgets/Expense Mgt.
  • Develop/coach leadership talent/technical expertise
  • Ensure appropriate compliance, regulatory controls and governance are in place
  • Build a high performing organization within Bristol West through the hiring, development and promotion of top talent
  • Position interfaces with members of the Farmers Leadership team including CEO, President of Personal Lines, members of the CEO’s Direct Report Group and the Senior Leadership Team
  • Position interfaces with support and control functions across Farmers and Zurich (e.g. IT, Legal, Finance, Procurement, etc.)
  • Position works closely with key internal stakeholders (e.g. Claims, Distribution, Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, etc.)
  • Position interfaces with Government and Industry Affairs Group (GAIA), Industry Regulators, Agents and Field Leadership

Physical Actions
  • Travel to Bristol West and 21st Century locations to support day to day leadership of operations
  • Travel to Farmers and Zurich locations (as needed)

Education Requirements
  • The position requires a minimum of a four year college degree
  • Advanced degree (e.g. MBA, Masters) is desirable

Experience Requirements
  • Significant experience in the insurance industry (e.g. 10 years)
  • Leadership experience running a large division within a company and/or previous COO/CEO experience

Special Skill Requirement
  • Deep technical knowledge of all aspects of successfully running an insurance company to achieve profitable growth. Superior interpersonal skills required to identify and develop talent. Ability to deal with complexity of working in a highly matrix-ed organization. Exceptional communications skills to articulate a vision, inspire/lead others and build followership.
