The Board of the Helen Kate Furness Free Library seeks knowledgeable, motivated, community-driven candidates for the position of Library Director. The library services the Township of Nether Providence and the Borough of Rose Valley in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
The Director position is vital to the Libraryâs operations and reports to the Library Board of Directors. The Director serves as the lead administrator for the Library and exercises administrative supervision of all library staff and volunteers. The Director is responsible for the operations, programs, services, maintenance and personnel of the Library. The Director works with the Board to create policies, define strategic plans, garner financial support for the library and maintains relationships and provides reporting to Delaware County Libraries, the municipalities, the staff and the Board.
Candidates should demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Experience in planning, organizing, directing, and conducting the administrative management of a library.
- Experience and skills in analyzing issues, problem solving, advocacy, team building, community relations, budgeting, and fundraising.
- Excellence in communication, including written, verbal listening, comprehension, and public presentation skills.
- Ability to exercise initiative, appropriate discretion, and good judgment.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret library statutes, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, reports, and financial documents.
- Management ability to focus staff on serving, strengthening, and encouraging patron participation.
- Experience and skills to encourage a friendly and professional working environment.
- Ability to engage in community outreach and partnerships.
- Membership and participation in professional organizations such as the American Library Association and the Pennsylvania Library Association.
- Proven capacity to work with various stakeholders (State, County, Municipal, School, Board, staff, patrons).
- Comfort in a dynamic environment of continual improvement.
We are seeking candidates with a Masterâs degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, a Professional Librarian Certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, as well as five or more years of experience overseeing public library operations or the equivalent. The position is a full-time exempt position.
