Job Summary

The Head of Eastern Expansion will have P&L responsibility for overall Eastern Expansion (auto, home and umbrella) results. Working with the Chief Product Officer, you will be responsible for specific aspects of the Business Unit’s strategic and operational planning for a region and assigned product line or industry group. Critical to success is the recruitment, training and mentoring of high potential candidates who can become the future leaders of our company.


Essential Job Functions

  • Spearhead the Personal Lines collaboration, build a team, and set direction and priorities for Eastern Expansion.
  • Ensure that Product Managers use analytical tools and knowledge of the state regulatory and competitive climate to set an appropriate state and territory strategy and gain regulatory approval.
  • Partner with other departments to identify projects that improve profitability, growth and positive customer experience and drive them to successful completion.
  • Ensure a state-of-the art product and technology.
  • Oversees development of long and short term plans for development and implementation of product management methodologies across the region.
  • Develops and enforces standards of practice for Product Managers.
  • Develops and recommends operations, service, claims, underwriting guidelines and market standards.
  • Works closely with Guidewire team on state roll outs.
  • Works with IT and other departments to ensure availability and quality of necessary data.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree is preferred for this role.
  • Ideally 10-15 years of industry experience.
  • Experience managing several areas of an insurance company (product, marketing, claims, etc) is beneficial as it provides a perspective on how product changes can impact the rest of the organization.
  • An understanding of IT is critical to success in this role.
  • Experience managing a team of people.

Special Skill Requirement

A deep understanding of the auto, home and personal umbrella insurance industry along with knowledge of the key competitors is critical to success in this role.

Beyond the technical skills, understanding the actions and motivation of our agents and key competitors will help leverage our strengths vs. weaknesses, while simultaneously working on strengthening our vulnerabilities.
