Position Overview:

MSCI is seeking a self-motivated leader to join the Finance Controllers organization as Executive Director – Head of Revenue Accounting Policy and Controls. This role will be responsible for supporting a fast-growing global organization through establishing or updating accounting and reporting policies, along with related internal controls, to ensure compliance with ASC 606 accounting and reporting requirements. Located at MSCI’s headquarters in New York, NY, this position will also support business partnership initiatives in partnership with the Variable Revenue and Subscription accounting and reporting teams by providing accounting and reporting technical guidance for revenue recognition matters pertaining to new customer contracts and new product developments. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the drafting and review of accounting and reporting position papers related to such transactions. As needed, this position will support the interim reviews and annual audits performed by PricewaterhouseCoopers. This role will have the opportunity to work with a diverse set of finance stakeholders and senior leaders at the company.

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Lead, develop and grow the team responsible for establishing accounting and reporting policies related to revenue recognition in compliance with ASC 606
  • Manage the technical accounting research and related documentation of revenue-related technical accounting matters
  • Partner with Product Finance to support accounting for new or complex revenue transactions, including developing documented conclusions incorporating applicable accounting guidance within the scope of ASC 606 and ASC 985
  • Participate in the quarterly SEC filing process, including preparation of assigned disclosures and reviews of investor relations materials
  • Execute special projects as assigned, including mergers and acquisitions accounting considerations and finance functional transformation projects
  • Manage aspects of the relationship with MSCI’s independent registered public accounting firm, principally related to revenue recognition
Specific Knowledge/Skills:

  • Prior experience managing and leading a global team
  • Proficient with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, including ASC 606
  • Experience auditing or working for a publicly-traded company
  • Strong communication skills with ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills

Desired Experience:

  • 10+ years in Accounting or Finance related field
  • Public accounting (Big Four) and/or industry accounting experience with multi-national public companies within the technology or software industries
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Prior experience managing and leading a global team

Desired Qualification:

  • Strong understanding of controls and business processes, particularly within the technology and software businesses
  • Successful track record of driving change through implementation of new policies or processes
  • Advanced degree, such as Master’s in Accounting or Masters in Business Administration
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed, approximately 15% of the time.
