The David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah is seeking a dynamic leader for the position of Director of the Executive MBA (EMBA) program to help this top 25 nationally ranked program continue to grow and expand. Building upon a strong brand and reputation, the Director is responsible for the development, maintenance, and improvement of the Executive MBA program. Primary responsibilities include admissions and recruiting, student services, faculty support, corporate and industry outreach, curriculum improvement, intensive weeks and international experiences, student satisfaction, program growth, student quality, and student alumni events and initiatives. The Director has overall responsibility for the administration of the Executive MBA program with the authority to make decisions and commitments to ensure the program’s administrative and academic success. The incumbent will be expected to manage the day-to-day student services and program coordination functions for the EMBA program, with a focus on providing the highest quality customer service. The Director will contribute to the overall mission of the David Eccles School of Business by working collaboratively with the entire department and school.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement strategic recruitment practices, processes, and initiatives to attract high-quality applicants and oversee the admissions process from recruitment to matriculation.
  • Establish and continuously improve ongoing contact and cultivation methods to ensure a high yield of quality admits.
  • Serve as a visible leader for the Executive MBA Program both internally and externally and act as an advocate for the program in the local and national community by engaging with companies and partners.
  • Conduct informational and admissions interviews, evaluate candidates for admission, and manage yield rates.
  • Ensure a smooth transition from admissions to matriculation, with a focus on conversion.
  • Lead corporate outreach plan to meet recruitment goals, including establishing processes, conducting company visits, mobilizing the student and alumni network, and more.
  • Counsel and advise EMBA students as it relates to academic success and career guidance, with a focus on retention.
  • Monitor and improve program quality by conducting mid-program and exit surveys, analyzing results, and implementing changes.
  • Plan and deliver year-round admissions, current student, and alumni events including information sessions, class visits/preview days, admissions advisor events, information webinars, welcome lunches, orientations, graduations, and more as appropriate.
  • Design and deliver three off-site intensive weeks (one domestic, two international).
  • Monitor best practices in other MBA programs worldwide and facilitate program improvement.
  • Provide leadership to ensure that the program curriculum and features are aligned with predetermined goals and objectives as well as learning outcomes.
  • Build active cohorts and teams for the completion of program work and create a strong attachment to the EMBA program, David Eccles School of Business, and the University of Utah.
  • Supervise the Executive MBA staff and all associated activities.
  • Develop and foster positive and constructive relationships with other program directors, the Associate Dean, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain a physical presence with students.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, clinical field, or related area, or equivalency; nine years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, staff management, and effective communications skills required.

Completion of hospital provided supervisory training within one year of employment may also be required.

Masters degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or related Area preferred.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Preferences

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least six years of professional experience with executives in a business environment is required.
  • Master’s degree in business administration or related area preferred. Applicants with an MBA degree from the David Eccles School of Business and good rapport with faculty members will receive top priority.
  • Substantial leadership experience, including the ability to analyze and dissect critical issues facing the program. A willingness to engage in robust, rigorous debate and the ability to work with others to derive and implement new solutions. Openness to challenge, assumptions, beliefs. or viewpoints, and a willingness to re-examine these when necessary.
  • A strong understanding of the specifics of delivering a high-quality MBA program, and a passion for education, student satisfaction, and mentoring.
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, due to the significant recruiting and public relations components of the role.
  • An international mindset, preferably with global business or business school experience.
  • Ability to lead a team, mentor team members, and help the team adapt to changing priorities with ease and efficiency, by applying excellent judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent strategic leadership and management skills with the ability to attract, motivate, and retain a committed team with business development and customer satisfaction responsibilities.
  • Strong ability to handle confidential and non-routine information with discretion and sensitivity.
  • Ability to develop and adjust strategies, build budgets, work collaboratively with other university and external teams, and manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated success in an institutional environment utilizing a customer-centered and service-oriented attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and manage through influence in complex organizations.
  • A personality and demeanor that is highly professional, respectful, curious, insightful, and analytical.
  • Ability to understand and interact with executive-level professionals from diverse corporate backgrounds and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate effectively in a small, team-oriented office, with focus on flexibility and “do-what-it-takes” attitude.
  • Preference will be given to those able to work alternating Saturdays to support student class days, increase understanding of the program, and develop relationships with students.
