Job Summary
The Director of Digital Experience manages the development of intuitive and engaging digital solutions architecture, usability research, and interaction design for UT Southwestern’s academic website and digital entities. Supervising several key positions, the Director is both a team leader and creative contributor, and serves as an important coordinator and collaborator within the department. The ideal candidate facilitates comprehensive strategies and criteria that closely align with business needs and user-focused experiences for mobile and web. You should possess a strong understanding of digital UX/UI, content strategy and structure, and information architecture within an enterprise Content Management System. As a member of the Digital and Interactive team in Institutional Advancement, this role is responsible for driving inspiring, organic interaction, design best practices, through testing and data-driven methods to enhance UT Southwestern’s brand image. The ideal candidate will possess holistic, cross-disciplinary project leadership expertise and must be able to adapt quickly and thrive in ambiguous digital environments. The ideal candidate will also have a proven track record in managing user-centered design methodology and techniques, and proven track record of improving the web design lifecycle. This individual will lead the formulation, strategy, and alignment of digital experiences within a fast-paced environment. The individual will also be expected to build trust across the institution through transparency of the content and user experience process by advising, consulting, and partnering across disciplines, including full-stack developers, designers, department leads, strategists, and content developers.


Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree and professional managerial experience within digital teams and business initiatives through graphic, visual communications, content strategy, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Architecture, or related UX field and eight years of digital strategic experience. Agency and consulting experience a plus.


Job Duties

  • Act as product owner for utsouthwestern.edu and other digital user experiences; participate in the clear and consistent delivery of a unified content and experience across channels and devices for our academic digital presence.
  • Manage content structure, design, strategy, and information architecture for digital applications; oversee and contribute to documentation that can be repurposed within the constraints of the global university digital vision.
  • Collaborate effectively with global stakeholders including leadership, marketing, brand, IR and design teams.
  • Prioritize scope POVs, driving to alignment among team and leadership in the organization
  • Manage UX design strategy to identify business, user, and technical requirements to ensure that solutions achieve user and business goals.
  • Collaborate within the Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs department to develop and maintain an approach that improves content performance and user engagement.
  • Interpret and define business and functional requirements into user-friendly, technically optimal, scalable design.
  • Research user experience and combine with external best-practices to create a roadmap for digital usability studies that ensure design is intuitive and easy-to-use.
  • Manage website and application builds that ensure best business practices and expectations are upheld.
  • Improve global digital experiences through impeccable partnership with Marketing, Information Resources, Communications, Research and Academic departments.
  • Define and prioritize schedules, development priorities, milestones, and deliverables across relevant initiatives.
  • Develop and communicate design strategy to key stakeholders.
  • Partner with UX team to serve as an internal consultant and advocate of design that encompasses the Institution’s global UX vision and strategy.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert as it relates to all things related to utsouthwestern.edu, including visual design, content and industry standards.
  • Direct and support all designers and digital content personnel in accordance with strategic goals and standards.
  • Build, improve and enforce brand standards to maintain consistent identity across digital properties.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of UX/UI disciplines including interface design, efficient digital messaging, information architecture, usability, and interaction design.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and presentation skills with a profound ability to present complex ideas in understandable ways.
  • Expertise in building and managing websites through multiple content management systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise overseeing digital experience deliverables through user-testing methodologies resulting in building, implementing, and maintaining user-centric Omni-channel experiences.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with fluency in UX/UI strategy,
  • Work requires the ability prioritize department and institutional projects and goals while rapidly leading producing deliverables in a fast-paced iterative environment.
  • This position requires the ability to manage multiple projects of varying complexity structures concurrently with an overarching strategy incorporating defining and measurement of KPIs.
  • The individual must be a highly collaborative team leader that can easily adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
