Position Available: Communications Director
Classification: Regular, Exempt Salary Range: $41.62 to $45.78 per hour
Closing: Open until filled
This is a forty hour (40) per week position. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability insurance, general leave, paid holidays, State and 401A retirement plans.
The purpose of this position is to develop, implement and oversee communication and advocacy strategies that result in increased understanding and support of WorkForce Central and the workforce development system at the local, state and federal level. Strategies will include a broad representation of the system and its many partners. In addition, the Communications Director will use social media, traditional media, community convening to share workforce and labor market data, services that system partners provide, and strategic direction of the Chief Local Elected Officials and the Pierce County Workforce Development Council.
Primary Responsibilities:
The following are the primary duties and responsibilities of the Communications Director position:
· Administer website and social media content by creating, updating and monitoring copy, content, data and news in line with WorkForce Central’s goals and initiatives
· Write and edit internal and external communications pieces including newsletters, talking points and portions of research reports
· Proactively develop relationships with press contacts and coordinate with CEO and contractors on press relations
· Assist with and represent WorkForce Central at events, exhibits, interviews and presentations
· Interpret and communicate employment data on a recurring basis
· Manage and grow database of contacts
· Apply established messaging strategy across WorkForce Central materials and platforms
· Work closely with contract communications and graphic design agency in the development, design and production of marketing tools, special projects and overall strategies to ensure consistency and expand WorkForce Central’s influence
· Plan and convene community conversations related to workforce development issues
· Oversee, edit and approve all print and digital materials from WorkForce Central’s subrecipients as well as WorkSource partners and participates monthly in the statewide WorkSource Brand and Media Group phone calls.
· Assist CEO in developing contacts with and messaging to federal, state and local policy makers and key staff
· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
To perform this classification successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or similar field and 3-5 years Communications / Marketing experience. Some professional work experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
· Excellent writing, editing and public speaking skills.
· Experience managing digital media tools including major social media platforms.
· Experience with contact and content management software and tools.
· Ability to articulate technical and complex concepts in an understandable way to a non-technical audience.
· Basic understanding of workforce development and career pathways thinking.
· Language Skills – Ability to read and understand employment and labor market information and data, related periodicals and government regulations. Ability to compose reports, business correspondence and specialized materials. Should be able to effectively present information and respond to diverse customer groups.
· Reasoning Ability – Ability to define problems, research data, analyze facts, prioritize tasks, set goals and prepare reports. Should be able to understand, interpret and communicate a variety of technical regulations, accounting principles, instructions and program guidelines.
· Computer Skills – To perform this classification successfully an individual should have advanced knowledge of Adobe, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office Suite.
