Position Summary
This high profile position reports directly to the Director of Supply Chain. The junior Commodity Manager strive to maximize buying efficiencies and minimize risk while sourcing soybean oil and egg products meeting or exceeding quality standards established within the organization. A strong ability to assess market conditions and report significant developments is considered essential to this role. Successful candidates will have the ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders across all functional groups within the organization to understand and manage demand and quality standards.
Responsibilities of the Commodity Manager (Food/Manufacturing)
- Devise methods to maximize commodity buying efficiency and minimize risks.
- Maintain and refine an advanced analytics algorithm to estimate the ideal time to price CBOT (hedges).
- Collaborate with suppliers on their efforts to continuously improve quality and manufacturing efficiency and develop an effective KPI-driven scorecard process.
- Conduct regular competitive procurement process reviews (RFQ) for soybean oil.
- Contracts truck and rail freight from suppliers and optimizes logistics.
- Continuously assesses market conditions that may impact lead time and/or price and communicates significant developments to key stakeholders throughout the organization.
- Gather and report actionable information on fundamental supply and demand (e.g. crop and growing conditions) and freight/logistical situations that can be used with suppliers to negotiate lower basis values.
- Stays informed with alternative uses (e.g. biodiesel) for soybean oil and their impacts on the market.
- Develops and strengthens supplier relationships.
- Manages product flow to support ongoing manufacturing while maintaining the lowest on hand inventory possible.
- Communicates on a regular cadence with supporting business units.
- Maintains communications with the sales and marketing team on demand planning and market cost changes.
- Communicates and manages discussions on significant quality and delivery concerns.
- Supports strategic supply chain initiatives as assigned.
Education and Experience of the Commodity Manager (Food/Manufacturing)
- BS Degree (Agricultural Economics, Economics, Statistics, Data Analytics or Supply Chain preferred).
- Minimum 2 â 3 years of experience with physical vegetable oil merchandising or trading, bulk soybean oil preferred.
- Experience in applying advanced analytics to improve decision making preferred.
- Broad knowledge of supply chain principles and disciplines preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 25% to domestic sites as required.

- Must demonstrate strong decision making abilities.
- Skilled at effectively interfacing with employees at all levels within the organization.
- Strong business acumen.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage supplier relationships, including relationship building, performance, and development.
- Experience in supply chain operations preferred.
- Strong analytical skills.
