Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder Police Department (CUPD) encourages applications for an Accreditation Manager. This role manages, coordinates and implements all aspects of the Police Department’s accreditation activities. Additionaly, this position maintains and ensures compliance of national IACLEA and CALEA accreditation standards through ongoing coordination and planning. The Accreditation Manager will also collaborate with the Clery Compliance and Crime Analyst to maintain compliance with the Clery Act for the CU Boulder Campus.

Every year the department responds to approximately 20,000 calls for service and ensures the safety and security for all of their PAC-12 Conference athletic events with attendance at football games exceeding 50,000 fans. Patrolling the campus by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, and vehicle, the CU-Boulder police work diligently with the University community and surrounding agencies to ensure a prompt and coordinated law enforcement response.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Accreditation Management
  • Ensure accreditation program functions are in compliance with departmental goals and objectives, pertinent laws, rules, and regulations. Manages the accreditation process to determine and safeguard compliance; takes steps to achieve compliance when noncompliance is determined. Use document management and tracking software, as well as program-specific management tools to track the progress of files and oversee outstanding document requests.
  • Write, review, and revise department policies, procedures and operations manuals to ensure compliance with applicable laws, changing legislation, current agency practice, and all accreditation standards. Train staff on accreditation related policy implementation.
  • Oversee the functionality, efficiency, and content of the internal document management system including the storage and management of department forms, policy manuals, operations manuals, policy revisions and revision tracking logs, department reference manuals, electronic accreditation standards manuals and standard assessment processes.
  • Represents the department on behalf of the Chief at public hearings, or during public phone-in comment sessions of local law enforcement agencies during their accreditation assessment on-site visits to provide comments about their accomplishments in meeting accreditation standard requirements.
  • Serve as a mock assessor for other law enforcement agencies, providing an in-depth review of that agency’s policies, procedures, practices and documentation used within their accreditation files, and provide feedback to enable that agency to be best prepared for their formal assessment process.

Clery Compliance
  • Ensure CU Boulder’s overall compliance with the Clery Act and associated regulations when the Clery Compliance/Crime Analyst is absent.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the area of Clery Act compliance, including forthcoming changes in the law and Department of Education enforcement activities to determine the impact on CU Boulder constituents. Will assist with crime analysis.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of complex administrative and data management.
  • Prior law enforcement and IACALEA or CALEA accreditation process experience.
  • The incumbent must be able to successfully pass elements of the hiring process that may include a detailed background/personal investigation, a criminal history and DMV check, a phase I psychological suitability test, a polygraph, an integrity interview, and drug screen. The polygraph will entail disclosure of drug usage and use of illegal substances could result in disqualification. Per department policy, applicants who have used marijuana within two years of application will be disqualified.

What You Will Need

  • Knowledge of the IACALEA and CALEA accreditation process.
  • Knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Act.
  • Advanced critical thinking, data analysis, and technical computer skills.
  • Ability to persuasively represent organizational programs and policies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on a continual basis.
