We are seeking a Vice President of Information Technology to join our Information System Department!

The Vice President of Information Technology is responsible for leadership in the development and implementation of enterprise information technology (IT). Leads in planning and implementing enterprise information systems to support distributed and centralized clinical and business operations and achieves effective and cost-efficient enterprise-wide IT operations. Provides strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the information and technology systems. Leads and facilitates communication between staff, management, vendors and other third-party relationships. Oversees and evaluates system security, business continuity and disaster recovery planning and implementation. As a member of the senior management team, contributes to the organizational and strategic planning of SBH.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads company-wide IT strategic planning activities for SBH. Identifies and defines short and long-term IT strategy, goals and objectives under the guidance of the senior leadership team. Leads departmental input and technology planning processes. Assists executive and departmental leadership in the prioritization of all projects as they relate to IT infrastructure, clinical systems, and business applications.
  • Coordinates and directs all projects related to selection, acquisition, development and installation of major information systems. Provides advice on evaluation and selection of information systems to ensure appropriate investment in strategic and operational systems; ensures alignment with federal and state laws and regulations (e.g. CARF Accreditation; HIPAA; HITECH). Develops and maintains business continuity and disaster recovery plans for SBH in alignment with fiscal, clinical and strategic goals and objectives.
  • Leads IT Department management and staff to assure cost effective, efficient and customer service-oriented IT support is provided for business and clinical operations.
  • Regularly evaluates existing technology, information systems and staffing to ensure alignment with business and clinical goals of SBH. Researches new technology and solutions and recommends changes as appropriate. Reviews all hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts, soliciting involvement and participation of other management members as appropriate. Negotiates master purchase agreements for IT services.
  • Directly supervises IT Department management, plus indirectly supervises their direct reports, in accordance with SBH’s policies and procedures. This includes hiring, orienting, training, delegating, coaching, mentoring, disciplining, terminating, scheduling staff and vacations, and performing timely performance evaluations.
  • Acts as, or appropriately assigns the duty of, Security Officer to implement, monitor and update SBH’s IT Security program. Understands and ensures adherence to the HIPAA Security Rule and Breach Notification Rule. Works with HIPAA Privacy Officer to maintain HIPAA compliance for SBH.
  • Develops, maintains and ensures compliance with standards and corporate policies for hardware, software, data exchange, security and telecommunications.
  • Maintains strong relationships with external resources to ensure technology systems are promoted, created, supported and maintained where network connections and/or dependencies exist (e.g. Health Information Exchange (HIE); cloud-based solutions; IT supplies). Ensures third party agreements are properly maintained while minimizing ongoing costs to SBH.
  • Develops and manages the annual fiscal budgets for capital, operating and payroll for the IT Department; monitors costs for hardware, software, licenses, support, payroll, contractors, etc.
  • Develops, implements and maintains a comprehensive user training program for mobile and desktop systems, clinical and business applications, HIPAA, HITECH and SBH’s security program.


Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in information systems with 8+ years of progressive IT leadership experience combined with 3+ years of overall hands-on experience supporting IT infrastructure and security in a Microsoft Server and Cisco networking environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years working in a healthcare IT environment.
  • Must have expert knowledge and experience with HIPAA, HITECH and Accreditation rules and regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience implementing and supporting security best practices within a healthcare environment is required.
