Fincantieri Marine Group currently has an opportunity for a Vice President of Business Development at the Washington, DC location.

Fincantieri Marine Group is comprised of three Great Lakes Shipyards: Fincantieri Marinette Marine, builder of Freedom Class Littoral Combat Ships for the United States Navy; Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, specialists in construction, repair and conversion of United States Coast Guard (USCG) and commercial vessels; and Fincantieri ACE Marine, an aluminum construction facility and builder of Response Boat-Medium for the USCG, as well as specializing in the design and construction of high speed coastal intercept and patrol vessels.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for capturing new business opportunities and increasing existing business at FMG and at all its yards. The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for leading recognition and pre-capture business development related activities. It is also the responsibility of this position to take on roles of responsibility once an opportunity has been identified. The Vice President of Business Development will report to the Fincantieri Marine Group Chief Executive Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepare and carry through business development initiatives, including participation in events and shows, meetings with officials and decision-makers, and other promotional activities.
- Design the business development strategy along with prepare and maintain the Group’s pipeline.
- Oversee the business development team and relevant marketing resources from the Group’s shipyards in developing material (brochures, advertisements, etc.) or activities (shipyard visits, etc.).
- Oversee the creation of the capture plan and strategy.
- Oversee the development of the proposal plan and management of the proposal process.
- Must abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 4 to 8 employees assigned to the Capture and Proposal positions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Demonstrates leadership skills that align with the mission, vision, and values of the Company.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s in Business Administration or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
- Fifteen (15+) years of progressive responsibility in administration, management control and/or accounting of technical/professional services in the shipbuilding industry.
- Ten (10+) years of experience in successful project leadership, demonstrating strong organizational and leadership skills and/or supervisory role with a group of 10 or more.
- Possess a broad working knowledge of marine systems including but not limited to: structural, outfitting, machinery, hydraulics, electrical, mechanical, electronics, HVAC, etc.
SKILLS:
- Must have the ability to be a strong negotiator, and be conversant with DAR and FAR and Contracts.
- Must be technical cognizant in one or more shipbuilding disciplines.
- Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills.
- Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
- Must have strong customer service and negotiation skills.
- Must have the ability to read/analyze program metrics.
- Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.
