Live where others vacation and retire! We are located in beautiful Traverse City, Michigan, surrounded by water, agriculture and all-season recreation. The Managing Director can also reside near our downstate location in Lansing, Michigan.


Reports to
: Chairman of Tamarack Holdings and Company Partners


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the management team in running Tamarack Holdings’ businesses in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, Strategic Plans, Goals and Objectives and within the budgets approved by the Chairman, Partners and Advisors; facilitate the regular / annual process to establish and evaluate these elements of the businesses.
  • Ensure effective working relationships with the Chairman and Partners by meeting or communicating with the Chairman and Partners on a regular basis to review key developments, issues, opportunities and concerns.
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the organization; drive the businesses to profitability and in accomplishing annual Goals and Objectives; monitor and redirect the management team in accordance with needs of the businesses.
  • Establish a rhythm for the businesses to report KPI and financial performance; build accountability with the management team for performance against Goals and Objectives.
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes to significantly improve financial performance.
  • Collaborate with the management team to analyze, develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel designed to accommodate the growth objectives of the organization; lead the organization in data-driven decision making while pushing initiatives with a sense of urgency.
  • Steer the businesses toward continuous improvement initiatives; lead the ongoing development of Lean practices, principles and a Lean culture throughout the businesses.
  • Motivate and lead a high-performance management team; attract, recruit and retain required members of the management team not currently in place; provide mentoring and training to the management team on best practices to improvement business performance; collaborate with HR on development of Succession Plans for key roles.
  • Represent the organization with customers, investors and business partners.
  • Collaborate with the Chairman and Partners on the New Initiatives Process as a disciplined input into Strategic Plans, Goals and Objectives.
  • Partner with the Chairman as a champion and driver of safety throughout the Tamarack Holdings businesses.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or Supply Chain Management; M.B.A. preferred.
  • 15 years of progressive leadership and responsibility in a growth-oriented business; Food Distribution and Food Manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen with the proven ability to develop and implement profitable strategies and solutions.
  • Proven knowledge of best practices in corporate governance, business administration, distribution and manufacturing.
  • Solid leadership and change management skills; ability to lead, engage, and influence employees at a variety of levels in an organization.
  • Strong understanding of performance management principles; willingness to mentor and train teams in best practices.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement methods for positive change, Lean experience preferred.
  • Analytical, organizational and innovative problem-solving competency.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to see projects and issues through to resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills that facilitate an open and productive team environment; effective presenter to groups.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft desktop products, including Office 365 and Excel.
  • Travel to other work locations up to 40%.
