Position Summary:

This Governance Lead position will be responsible for supporting Delivery Services in ensuring compliance to agreed-upon delivery standards and framework. This role requires team leadership, business acumen, strong relationship management skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Governance Lead will be involved in coaching project/program managers on BNSF’s delivery standards and framework, providing subject matter expertise on handling exceptions, supporting evolution of delivery standards and framework and enabling diligent project management across all initiatives. The Governance Lead will be accountable for team-wide adoption and adherence of the organizational delivery standards.


Essential Functions:

  • Coach Project Managers and Program Managers on the intent of the various delivery standards and practices, and enable team-wide adoption
  • Support Project Managers and Program Managers in developing required content for stage gates, and other critical checkpoints on the project
  • Provide subject matter expertise and delivery oversight on handling any exceptions to documented standards and procedures
  • Provide hands-on coaching support to delivery teams in applying the delivery framework, as needed
  • Perform regular quality checks across all delivery initiatives to proactively identify any areas of incompliance, and collaboratively work with assigned project/program managers to address them
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate training on the BNSF delivery framework to project and program managers, on a regular basis
  • Partner with Delivery Services leadership to ensure continued relevance of the BNSF delivery framework, and evolve the standards and practices in a structured manner
  • Refine and evolve the various tools, work aids and templates provided with the delivery framework, based on feedback from delivery teams
  • Provide transparent reporting and metrics on the team’s adherence to agreed-upon delivery standards and framework


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university (Computer Science, Engineering, Business or a related discipline)
  • 8 yrs. of combined Agile and Waterfall delivery experience, with accountability for project budgets, scope, schedule, and quality
  • Prior experience in training facilitation and team coaching
  • Proven track record of leading and influencing teams in a matrix organization
  • Ability to interact effectively across various levels within the organization
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient in utilizing productivity/collaboration tools (such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification/advanced project management education (e.g., PMP, PMI-ACP, SAFe) preferred
  • Transportation industry/railroad experience
  • Experience using Planview, Version One and Confluence
