DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking an Office Manager to join the team in our Richmond, VA office. The successful candidate will be responsible for office administration, business planning, financial management, technical oversight, staff development, business development, quality assurance, and client management for all services provided by or managed for the firm from the Richmond Office. They will also be responsible for leading and developing a group of professionals servicing federal, state, county, municipal and/or private sector clients within their respective technical expertise.

Participates in formulating and administering company policies and developing long range goals and objectives

Directs and coordinates activities of departments within the office to further attainment of goals and objectives

Reviews analyses of project and production activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine office, department or division progress toward stated goals and objectives

Responsible for creating and monitoring office and department budgets

Responsible for developing and maintaining client relations, including monitoring client satisfaction

Provide leadership and direction by mentoring and motivating staff on issues such as performance feedback, technical guidance, financial management, and client relations

Resolves personnel issues, such as marginal performance, policy interpretations, and succession planning

Provides leadership and direction to grow and protect core business; adds new markets, new clients and broadens the capabilities of the office

Participates in internal and external professional development activities

Accountable for market metrics including, but not limited to:
Revenue and Contribution Profit

New Work Added and Backlog

Headcount

Workshare and development of Balanced Office Portfolio reflective of Michael Baker International enterprise capabilities, including collaboration with Office Executives and Managers across the enterprise to: 1) import technical skills and capabilities where warranted to support expansion of the office into new markets; and 2) export Richmond staff expertise, when feasible, to support technical needs of other offices across the enterprise.

Responsible for managing 3-5 subordinate supervisors who supervise about 20 employees in various office administration, production and technical departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing concerns and issues.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Four-year Civil Engineering degree is highly desired; other relevant degrees and licensure in a related field will be considered.

15-20 years’ experience, including at least 5 years of profit or cost center management experience

Demonstrated experience in the A&E arena as a “Doer-Seller,” cultivating clients, bringing opportunities to Michael Baker, successfully proposing/bidding/winning those opportunities, and overseeing the profitable execution of the work.

Goal oriented and quality focused; strong verbal, written, presentation and client management skills

Strong industry business and client contacts in Virginia
