Overview
Role Summary
As one of the first key hires to the newly formed LA Studio, the Head of Production will work closely with the General Manager to build out the production operations and production management processes of the studio to serve the creative production needs for Sphere productions. He/She will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day production management of multiple shows produced both internally (and externally, at first), including reporting and managing casting to shows. Further, the Head of Production will oversee the talent managers who manage and lead the artists of the studio. The Head of Production is responsible for overseeing and maintaining a smooth and consistent production operations, maximizing production value and quality while effectively communicating across the matrix of the organization.
Specific Functions/Activities Summary
- Provides consistent and regular communication to Studio Leaders regarding all operational or technical issues that may arise.
- Oversees talent managers, aligning department staffing with workflow forecasts and ensuring they stay ahead of recruiting and training needs.
- Leads and manages periodic cross-production meetings and resource evaluations.
- Manages key staff, project budgets and collaborative management for the direction, growth and vision of the studio.
- Ensures transparency into production management, spend, reporting, methodologies, staffing and strategies on a regular basis to evaluate production performance.
- Strategizes with Creative Executive Producers to realign projects if production objectives are not being met. Ensure that projects are scheduled accurately and are kept on track.
- Take responsibility for all production staff supervision and morale – either directly or through direct reports.
- Facilitates strong interdepartmental communication and cooperation across all areas necessary for successful production such as, creative and production technology and IT.
- Works alongside the GM and People Practices to promote and implement local processes which ensure healthy, productive production operations.
Qualifications
- 15+ years’ experience in development/production at a large studio and/or production company with leadership and oversight responsibilities across multiple complex projects.
- A proven leader with prior experience as a head of production, lead producer, production manager or head of large production department head overseeing workflows and driving successful execution of milestones, on-quality, on-budget, and on-schedule for relevant productions.
- Feature film, digital arts, vfx or animation studio production experience is a must. Deep understanding of VFX and digital Animation pipelines and is passionate about creating an innovative and creative work environment for our artists.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, negotiating, facilitation, organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills and experience cultivating creative working relationships with production technology, producers, artists, production management and Studio leaders.
- Proven mentoring, supervisory, talent development and team-building skills in a creative organization.
- Ability to work in a matrix environment and across multiple locations.
