Job Description

POSITION: Head of Business Intelligence and Data Engineering

DUTIES: Responsible for leading the US Business Intelligence engineering team to build out all front-end analytics tools and models that the US business units will use. Responsible for leading the US Data Engineering team in building and maintaining a data warehouse for all US business units, and works closely with both IT and the business units to create and maintain this data warehouse. Specific duties include the following: Lead and grow the Business Intelligence and Data Engineering function for the United States; Directly manage and develop a team of 3 data engineers, and 3 business intelligence engineers; Serve as subject matter expert and team lead of the data engineering team and business intelligence engineering team; Own the design, development, and maintenance of scalable solutions for ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards to support analytical and business needs; Use analytical and statistical rigor to answer business questions and drive business decisions; Develop queries and visualizations for ad-hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting; Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis, including data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation; Troubleshoot operational data-quality issues; Apply broad knowledge of technology options, technology platforms, design techniques and approaches across the data warehouse life cycle phases to design an integrated, quality analytics service to address business requirements, including SAP, Hadoop, and other cloud based products, as well as front end tool options like tableau, excel, and other BI tools; Design, develop and implement the technology infrastructure for all the components of an analytics platform; Ensure completeness and compatibility of the technical infrastructure to support system performance, availability and architecture requirements; Design and plan integration for all data warehouse technical components; Manage data design, data extracts and transforms, data quality monitoring, enhancements and ongoing support; Develop implementation and operation support plans.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, or a directly related field and four (4) years of experience in a Data Warehouse role as a Business Intelligence Engineer, Data Analyst, Data Engineer, or related occupation.

Previous employment experience must have included :

4 years of experience using Oracle or similar data warehouse software, including use and understanding of the following SQL concepts: Window functions rank(), dense_rank(), lag() and lead(); SQL vs NoSQL; Advanced Joins; DDL commands; Temp table creation; Subquery; Unions; and CASE when.

3 years of experience in Tableau development, including use and understanding of the following Tableau concepts: Data connection techniques; Organizing and simplifying data; Field (discrete vs continuous) and chart types; Calculations; Mapping; Analytics; and Dashboarding.

3 years of experience in writing code for machine learning using open source packages in R, including: Tidyr package; Dplyr package; Data type handling; Converting time to char in various time formats; Generating vectors, matrices, and random sample data; and Linear models using lm() and interpreting assumptions behind the model.

2 years of experience with writing and executing scripts in a Unix Server / AWS environment in order to: Write loops to process multiple documents; Define functions to handle exceptions; Create new directories; Copy documents to new directories; Delete documents in existing directories; and Define dictionaries and use dictionaries.

2 years of experience in mentoring and managing other Data Engineers and ensuring data engineering best practices are being followed.

Demonstrated experience with large scale data transformation using Teradata or similar Big Data technologies.
