NYU’s Division of Libraries seeks an innovative and service-oriented Head of Access & Delivery Services to provide strategic leadership for user services that support access to collections and services for teaching, learning, and research. As a member of the leadership team in the Collections & Content Strategy Department, the Head of Access & Delivery Services develops and designs efficient services responsive to user needs and grounded in a holistic approach to collection development and access services. This position works closely with teams across the Division to promote user awareness and adoption of new and legacy services. The Head of Access & Delivery Services directly oversees circulation, course reserves, resource sharing, study space management, and visitor access. This position provides critical leadership, advocacy, and expertise for access and delivery service providers at all NYU Libraries, Institutes, and Consortium partners, and leads the development of consistent policies and user-centered services across NYU Libraries locations. The Head of Access Services & Delivery Services directs, mentors, and leads the development and management of a diverse and talented staff that includes three direct reports, 18 staff members, and a large team of student assistants. The Head of Access and Delivery Services cultivates a workplace and service ethos of equity, belonging, and accessibility. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Collections & Content Strategy, the Head of Access & Delivery Services will work closely with collection development, instruction, library systems, user experience, subject specialists and liaisons, and other campus stakeholders to develop services responsive to the needs of users and sustainable for library staff. This position will promote NYU Libraries perspectives and innovation in various resource sharing and access services communities including Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortia (PALCI), Eastern Academic Alliance (EAST), OCLC Shares, and others.
Primary Responsibilities
- Leading and driving development, adoption, and improvement of system-wide services, practices, and policies to ensure an exceptional experience for all users and efficient operations in the areas of circulation, course reserves, resource sharing, study space, and visitor access.
- Overseeing all administrative aspects, including departmental budget, staffing, tracking progress on goals, and providing annual and statistical reports.
- Developing and implementing strategies and workflows to expand and simplify access to NYU Libraries materials, e.g. enhanced delivery options for distant education students, implementing processes to improve accessibility of services and collections, integrating request mechanisms within multiple user environments.
- Working closely with User Experience and utilizing service design principles to identify user needs and gaps in service effectiveness through a mix of qualitative and quantitative assessment.
- Developing and maintaining communication and collaboration among NYU Libraries and Consortium access services providers. Providing leadership for the development of coordinated strategies related to discovery, ILS and other systems for access and delivery services.
- Collaborating with Division of Libraries Communication, User Experience, Teaching, Learning and Outreach, and Research and Research Services teams to champion awareness of services among NYU students, faculty and staff through multiple touchpoints, i.e. point-of-service, library website, external marketing, and internal influencers.
- Advocating for and cultivating an environment of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity for users and departmental staff.
- Creating a departmental culture that encourages and rewards innovation, collaboration, accountability, and learning. Fostering the professional growth and involvement of departmental staff in Division initiatives.
- Representing the Division of Libraries locally, nationally, and internationally on all matters relating to access and resource sharing services.

Qualifications
Required:
- ALA-accredited library or information science master’s degree or a subject area master’s degree. Both degrees are required for promotion to Associate Curator.
- Minimum three years of experience leading complex service delivery operations and diverse teams in a library, academic or non-profit environment.
- Working knowledge of best practices and policies in access services or resource sharing, copyright and fair use, and data privacy.
- Demonstrated ability to create pleasing, inclusive and equitable customer service operations.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex projects involving multiple stakeholders from inception to successful launch and assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to engage staff in successful teamwork to improve services, and support an environment of belonging and inclusion.
- Working knowledge of current and emerging library technologies for resource sharing, circulation, reserves, and/or delivery services.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to shape communication strategy for different audiences, internal and external.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of data analysis tools such as Tableau or Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with service design approaches.
- Experience promoting services to user communities.

Salary/Benefits: Tenure-track faculty status, attractive benefits package including five weeks annual vacation. Rank based on qualifications. Salary commensurate with experience and background.
