About the Position
The Engineering Manager, DevOps, manages a team of full-stack Software Engineers. They work closely with peers in across engineering, product, and research and other stakeholders to define and execute work that aligns with company and R&D vision and goals. The work represented by the members of their team is likely to having some variety, representing any of the company’s product lines and corresponding technology stacks, but centered around the DevOps function. Their role will be to see and plan for the connections across that work. While they may occasionally be asked to or needed to contribute hands-on, this is largely a hands-off role.

The DevOps team has one singular goal; to change and improve the relationship by advocating better communication and collaboration between IT and Operations. They are responsible for maintaining the network, infrastructure, and support of our applications. They are high performing, seek to empower individuals, and truly work to maintain and continue a collaborative working environment. Our hope is to bring on someone with the will and passion to grow an enterprise organization and build the rest of FiscalNote while we take flight.
You Will:
- Provide mentorship, performance review, and growth planning for your team
- Foster a culture of continuous growth for your team
- Credibly and effectively advocate for work that prioritizes quality and excellence
– Collaborate with their team to develop best practices for automated testing- work closely with Apps Engineers and leadership across R&D Engineering to ensure excellence is inherent in all of your team’s work and that work fits into a broader system
- Ensure that work and shared processes are well documented and well understood
- Translate company and R&D goals into actionable goals and initiatives for their team
- Manage vendor relationships, as needed
– Collaborate with Product, UX, and other stakeholders- participate in code and software design reviews- occasionally contribute technically
You Have:
- Working knowledge of manual and automated testing techniques and strategies
– Experience with Agile methodologies and practices- experience with industry software engineering best practices, including CI/CD, version control, cloud infrastructure, testing
- An ability to manage individual contributors
- A sense of curiosity to ensure you and your team is continually learning and improving
- Ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences
- Empathy for your peers, stakeholders, and customers
- An eye for and an ability to assess and evaluate talent
- Ability to provide clear, direct, and constructive feedback
