Job Description

The Director, R&D Finance, will lead financial forecasting, reporting & analysis by developing robust and actionable annual and quarterly forecasts and working with Finance and Accounting Teams to oversee the monthly financial close and delivering robust monthly reporting that highlight key business drivers and risks. The position will also drive process improvement initiatives and provide support and leadership on key strategic business initiatives. The Director is also responsible for the overall consolidations for R&D and driving the Long-Range Plan.

The individual must be able to lead and meet deadlines for multiple priorities and projects drawing on disciplines from finance and project management. The individual will drive the delivery of accurate and timely management reporting including monthly financial and project level reporting and provide analytical support to senior management along with the following:

  • Financial and Regulatory compliance.
  • Deliver monthly reporting and variance analysis and maintain a consistent internal reporting structure.
  • Provide ongoing analytical support to management including preparing budgets and forecasts, and supporting the portfolio review and strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with senior members of the FP&A team to manage the annual planning calendar involving in-depth coordination of strategic plan, budget and forecasts.
  • Drive improvements to the reporting processes and enhance leveraging of the systems.
  • Continue to improve on build out of a scalable, global, reporting platform.

The individual should be able to establish strong relationships within Finance and with the Research Leadership team to deliver analytical and actionable results.

Responsibilities:

  • Publishing and providing the analysis for the reporting packages focusing on performance and variance analyses
  • Providing timely and insightful financial support
  • Leading and driving the Global Budget and Forecast process to effectively communicate deliverables and timelines to Business Partners and within R&D Finance and to coordinate the Calendar with Corporate Finance
  • Providing ad hoc analysis in support of Key Strategic Initiatives

Essential duties and Job functions:

  • Understand the interdependencies within R&D to provide financial transparency to Finance and Business Partners
  • Understand Business drivers and identify their impact
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies and procedures including the Worldwide Controller’s Policies
  • Identify and drive opportunities for process improvement and implement course of action
  • Lead and develop teams
  • Embrace change and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, matrix environment

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Pharmaceutical experience is highly desirable.
  • MBA is preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting (CPA is a plus) and 15+ years of relevant experience in financial planning and analysis (both at corporate and business unit levels)
  • Demonstrated success working in a deadline driven, multi-task environment
  • Experience with Oracle, Hyperion, Essbase, and OBIEE is preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High level thinker combined with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in creating and delivering presentations
