Job description
The Director, Design is responsible for overall design standards, which includes engineering manuals, design standardization, engineering drawing/report and drafting standards, standard parts and hardware, preferred materials and processing, and implementation for new standards and technology across Cabin. This position will report to the Director, Engineering OPEX for Cabin.
The Director, Design provides professional and technical guidance across Cabin to ensure that effective engineering standard practices, standard processes and standard procedures are developed, implemented and adhered to for design activities across all divisions.
Summary of Duties:
- To provide design and technical guidelines for design engineering through design and drafting manual, engineering specifications, engineering reports, and memorandums
- To evaluate and implement new standards; standard parts/hardware, materials and processes, design methodology, manufacturing technologies, and engineering processes.
- To keep up to date with new regulatory, customer requirements, and industry standards, and establish new standards or guidelines
- To influence design engineering in lean design implementation, design for manufacturing, parts standardization, modular design and first time quality products.
- To develop and provide training materials for design engineering
- To engage continuous improvement in the department and streamline and eliminate waste in the design process
- To support R&D activities, new program developments, and other departments that needs design consultations
- Perform lessons learned analysis at the conclusion of each major project, sharing both the positives and negatives with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate understanding of regulatory requirements, customer specifications and Company specifications.
- Identify design deficiencies and opportunities for improvement based on analysis, test observation and test results.
- Ad hoc reports on design risks depending on the criticality of issues, and support to mitigation action plan development (general orientations or detailed planning depending on the situation).
Job requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline, Master’s degree and/or MBA preferred.
Experience: 10 years of experience developing Cabin products and systems; 5 years formal leadership experience with proven track record of effective team-building and talent development within a design and build organization
