The UCSC Career Center is aligned with the Division of Student Success. The mission of the Career Center is preparing students for what they want to do with their lives by developing relevant career skills. The Center provides comprehensive campus-wide career services to current undergraduate and graduate students and alumni. It is the central resource for everything career related from part-time employment and internships to graduate school or professional employment. Services include career coaching, career and part-time job and internship listings, on-campus interviews, support for networking with Alumni and other professionals, a computer laboratory, graduate school application support, workshops, courses, and special events such as the Multicultural Career Conference, the Graduate and Professional School Fair and Job and Internship Fairs.
Qualifications / Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Thorough knowledge of Career Center programs and services.
Advanced knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, techniques and applications relevant to the field of promotion and advertising.
Advanced skills in developing, designing and implementing creative promotional and advertising strategies.
Advanced written, interpersonal communication and political acumen skills.
Advanced graphic design skills.
Advanced analytical and research skills.
Advanced knowledge of applicable state and federal laws pertaining to marketing and advertising issues and concerns and other related policies or laws relating to colleges/universities.
Ability to exercise leadership and management skills in mentoring less experienced staff.
Strong project management skills.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, cultural fluency and sensitivity sufficient to establish rapport, advocate for and design programming for underserved student populations.
Ability to follow, model, and maintain appropriate conduct that adheres to the UC Santa Cruz Principles of Community (https://www.ucsc.edu/about/principles-community.html).
Preferred Qualifications / Competencies
Master’s degree in related area.
Some knowledge of the campus including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives, and infrastructure.
Previous experience working in Career Services at an institution of higher education.
