This position is located in Colbert, Washington, just minutes north of Spokane, Washington. The anticipated start date would be for the Fall 2020 school year (July/August).

POSITION SUMMARY

The Superintendent/Head of Schools provides spiritual, strategic, academic, and business leadership to safeguard and advance Northwest Christian Schools’ distinctive reputation as a group of premier Christian schools that educate and disciple students to become leaders within the church, community, and world. This position fosters a spiritually grounded, Mission-focused, student-centered organizational culture that exemplifies effective communication, empowers leaders and staff, and builds an environment of academic and operational excellence, servant leadership, and mutual accountability, where students grow into their full potential as servants of Christ. Through strategic, business/operations, and community leadership, the Superintendent/Head of Schools ensures the short- and long-term development, growth, and viability of the schools.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP

  • Demonstrates and communicates a mature and resilient personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and a lifestyle and behaviors that are consistent with that faith.
  • Together with the administrative team, fosters an organizational culture that ensures that

Northwest Christian’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Statement of Faith are communicated, embedded, lived out, and reinforced in every aspect of academics, operations and community.

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

  • Works with the Board to craft and implement a vision, effective strategies, objectives, and tactics that reflect a dynamic, cohesive, and Biblically-grounded point of view about Christian education in a changing and competitive Inland Northwest marketplace.
  • When necessary, leads change initiatives to advance strategic priorities that produce stakeholder commitment and lasting results.

BUSINESS LEADERSHIP

  • Works collaboratively with the Board of Regents to develop, implement, and ensure compliance with policies that advance the Mission, comply with applicable laws and regulations, and are consistent with the Vision, Values, and Statement of Faith, as well as strategic priorities.
  • Ensures the short- and long-term development, growth and viability of the schools through effective financial, operations, and business management, budgeting, fundraising, capital planning, capital campaigns, safety and security management, and resource allocation.
  • Productively leverages and develops programs, capital, facilities, technology, and intangible assets to advance the Mission, Vision, and strategies.
  • Uses management systems and measurement to focus and improve performance on strategic priorities.

ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP

  • Collaborates with academic leaders to develop and implement goals and strategies for academic programs, curriculum and instruction, and related programs that are consistent with NWCS goal to be a premier Christian school.
  • Empowers academic and program excellence through continuous improvement and creative innovation.

TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Empowers, coaches, hires or develops, and holds accountable an effective team of administrative and academic leaders who do the same in their areas of responsibility.
  • Oversees and ensures compliance with applicable law in all aspects of human resources management, certification, and contracting.

COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS

  • Builds and maintains effective, trusting relationships with stakeholders within the school community and with influencers, donors, and strategic partners, including evangelical churches, within the surrounding community and region.
  • As the primary “face” of NWCS to the public, proactively protects and enhances NWCS’ reputation with stakeholders and the community through effective internal and external communication and, when necessary, crisis management.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Background check required and signing of NWCS Statement of Faith with addendum.

EDUCATION

Master’s Degree required. Education-related field strongly preferred.

Administrative Credential or Ed. D. preferred

EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED)

Must have implemented a well-articulated educational philosophy that is compatible with that of Northwest Christian schools.

Increasingly more responsible experience (scope and duties) within K-12 education that includes teaching and successful academic/administrative leadership of sites at both the elementary and secondary levels.

Strongly preferred: Four- to six- years’ experience as Head of Schools/Superintendent of a Christian school that included both elementary and secondary schools/grade levels.

Demonstrated ability to build effective, trusting relationships with, balance the needs of, and effectively handle conflicts among and with multiple stakeholders – Board members, administrative/academic leaders, teachers/staff, parents, students, donors, and community leaders.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a Board of Regents/Directors.

Demonstrated ability to produce results in key performance areas (for example, academic excellence; increased enrollment; capital campaign/fundraising success; implementing new academic programs/curriculum that are strategically important for growth and viability; or an overall turnaround).

Demonstrated ability to move to a different organization, state, or region or a significantly different role, build effective relationships at all levels, and produce results within an organizational culture that presents new or complex challenges. (Examples: from Private Christian to public or the reverse; geographic/regional move; shift from line/position power to staff/influence only).

Successful experience with fundraising/development strongly preferred.
