The role of the Research Director is to innovate in the field of metallurgy and material science,
lead efforts to bring technical solutions from concept to a marketable product, and manage
technical customer communication. The Research Director must stay well connected with the
materials processing technical community, consistently bringing in outside technology and
collaborating with experts in order to bring applicable solutions to the company.

Position Specific Responsibilities
Investigates and researches metallurgical technologies that apply to market demand.
Leads the development process for new surface engineering solutions based upon
specific customer needs and future business opportunities.
Leads technical customer communication to supports business development and
customer support.
Conducts rigorous testing to prepare technologies for production.
Advises infrastructure and equipment improvements to improve current production and
enable future work.
Assists with laboratory measurement and recording of data.
Implements an organization system for all necessary research documentation, drawings,
and data.
Performs other duties as necessary.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelors, Masters degree, or PhD in Materials Science required.
Minimum of 10 years experience in materials or coatings development and processing.
Supervisory/Management experience in a manufacturing company required.
Experience in a development laboratory or manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in research management software and MS Office: Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Ability to identify sources of problems and implement solutions.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
Knowledge of customer requirements, industry standards, TURBOCAM and vendor
capabilities helpful.
Must have ability to pass medical evaluation for respirator use and abide by
requirements for wearing respiratory protection such as a Powered Air Purifying
Respirator.
