Engineering Project Manager

Harris Group is looking for an experienced Project Manager to be based in our Portland, Oregon, office.

The Role:

The Project Manager is responsible for managing the full life cycle of design engineering and engineering/construction projects, which includes full responsibility for project profit or loss. This is a position of financial authority with responsibility for directing and leading diverse project teams. Harris Group’s focus is on developing long-term relationships with our clients. Projects range from small in-plant alterations to major expansions and grass roots facilities. The incumbent in this role may also manage projects for engineering sectors including Process/Chemicals and Aerospace/Industrial Manufacturing.


The Responsibilities:

  • Manages relationships with assigned clients as Harris Group’s primary representative including identifying projects and developing proposals.
  • Identifies, establishes, and manages the project goals, scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Prepares project plan for each project, including scope of project and scope of services, engineering budget, schedule, staffing plan, project procedures, QA/QC plan, safety plan, CAD standards and design criteria.
  • Provides financial management of the project, including weekly review of project budgets, approving invoices and tracking payments, expediting overdue payments, resolving disputes and changes with client.
  • Facilitates contract review and negotiation.
  • Identify and develop clients and prepare marketing data for completed projects in collaboration with marketing and business development
  • Facilitates and manages communications with the internal and client project team members including meetings, reports and correspondence.
  • Encourages and fosters teamwork including internal staff, clients, vendors and contractors.
  • Mentors staff to promote/develop growth of technical skills and provide feedback for personal development plans.


The Requirements:

Degree in Engineering or Architecture and 8 years minimum experience in design or process engineering, plant operations or start-up, and/or construction.

  • Demonstrated experience in project and staff management.
  • Formal project management training and knowledge of the project life cycle.
  • In-depth working knowledge and application of his/her industry sector, including industry-preferred design practices, sector-specific requirements, and the commercial landscape.
  • Strong project management and business development skills
  • Strong written, verbal and analytical skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Basic knowledge of design contracts and risk management.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to travel to an off-site location and/or accept client site assignments when required.
