POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Operations and Administrative Services, the Director for Donor

Stewardship will support the strategic fundraising and stewardship of Morehouse College. The Director will create and manage a comprehensive stewardship and donor relations program to ensure the College honors across all donor groups, overseeing institutional acknowledgements, and gift agreement management to ensure accuracy in stewarding all major gifts in support of Morehouse College. The Director will establish and maintain strong and effective relationships with Morehouse College’s major internal constituencies, which include members of the Executive Leadership Team, OIA Staff, the Provost, Deans of divisions and programs, departments, institutes and faculty and staff.

The Director will work closely with gift officers, deans, the president’s office and alumni and donor relations to develop customized stewardship experiences. Assist the President, the VP of OIA, and others in hosting donors, VIPs and other campus visitors that may require a high-level touch and extensive planning and coordinating with multiple units. In addition, you would play a role in following up after visits or special events, drafting correspondence, sending follow-up information and suggesting next steps and future strategies.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Develops, implements, and leads a successful and integrated donor relations program that strategically targets programs, activities and events for major giving donors and prospects, in support of OIA’s fundraising goals.
  • Work closely with OIA staff and campus beneficiaries to report to donors on the use of their gifts, arrange meetings between donors and beneficiaries, plan recognition events and serve as the primary campus contact for the most significant donors, resolving issues on behalf of donors and our campus community.
  • Manage stewardship team to ensure timely and accurate reporting of endowed and non-endowed funds.

Oversee all functions of the Donor Stewardship Coordinator.

  • Act as liaison and specialist to OIA personnel in order to provide cultivation and stewardship assistance to individual donors and prospects.
  • In collaboration with Communications, oversees and directs the development and implementation of strategic communications in multiple mediums in a timely fashion. This will include, but not be limited to, social media sites, Annual Report to Donors, e-blasts, year-end-reminders, endowment reports, gift acknowledgements, web pages, invitations, newsletter updates, fundraising campaign materials, and press releases.
  • Establish and maintain accurate records regarding all stewardship activities including gift acknowledgement, gift agreements, scholarship and endowment activity, stewardship event attendance and other activities as needed.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact for acknowledgement inquiries for OIA staff members and institutionalize

Advancement Gift Agreements

  • Manage the creation of gift agreements for all gifts greater than $50,000 to Morehouse College. Ensuring standardized templates are utilized by OIA fundraisers and staff.
  • Conduct reviews of stewardship activities across campus and determine where central resources can best be deployed to optimize the use of resources and create and sustain positive donor experiences.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with a large research institution or billion dollar-plus campaigns is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, and advanced degree preferred.
  • 3+ years relevant experience with a proven track record of leveraging data analysis to drive significant business impact preferred
  • Effective communicator and collaborator working in a cross-functional environment
  • Strong project and time management skills with attention to details.
  • Ability to lead and influence non-hierarchical, cross-functional work groups to drive to consensus on definitions and data usage
  • Proficient in Excel; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Desktop Tools (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • The position also requires demonstrated philanthropic values and a commitment to service, superior written and oral communication skills, exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, volunteers, donors, and prospective donors.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, computer proficiency, professional demeanor, a strong work ethic, and confidence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

Advanced degree preferred.

Experience with Advancement CRM and data visualization tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is largely a sedentary role, however, requires some travel, minimum lifting of less than 10 lbs., and some long standing and walking.
