LBS is searching for a Senior Global Trade Compliance Manager to execute tactical operations for the import and export trade compliance program to support our rapidly expanding global business. The candidate will partner with several international team members currently supporting our program around the globe. The candidate will be working with the Diagnostics (Dx) Platform Trade Compliance leader and the Platform’s team of subject matter experts to execute the strategic direction and global management of all aspects of our company’s trade compliance programs, including periodic self-testing, import compliance and export/sanctions compliance.

The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge of US and EU Import/Export Regulations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute the policies and procedures from the Dx Platform to trade operational regional teams to ensure that the company is compliant with domestic and foreign export and import requirements;
  • Direct several remediation efforts across the company through in-depth gap assessment and process improvement/implementation to mitigate risk to the company and ensure compliance with global laws and regulations;
  • Act as company coordinator for execution of Customs audit matters, remediation actions and disclosures with close partnership with Danaher Corporate and Dx Platform;
  • Assist with development and execution of customs valuation declaration process or reconciliation program (where applicable);
  • Information Technology – Act as liaison with IT and sister company Leica Microsystems’ trade compliance team to improve trade automation screening process, compliance rule logic and other trade compliance automation projects;
  • Advising Dx Platform staff, site general managers and senior staff about trade compliance matters;
  • Working collaboratively with all site departments to ensure they have implemented effective compliance internal controls into their procedures and work instructions (e.g., country of origin solicitation process with procurement);
  • Coordinate and in certain regions manage self-testing of company’s export/import compliance programs;
  • Manage current trade compliance team of two global associates;
  • Oversee trade operational regional associates and teams to drive improvements and efficiencies of established trade compliance processes to include guidance in their day-to-day compliance matters, classification, valuation, auditing, brokerage management, submission of export licensing, daily management metrics and recordkeeping;
  • Lead Free Trade Agreement programs data collection and execution elements to ensure compliance with company procedures;
  • Ensure legal compliance to trade laws and regulations, including appropriate licensing for shipments;
  • Identify, initiate, coordinate and lead projects/cross functional projects that improve existing processes to support trade compliance activities and/or business objectives;
  • Assist in managing supply chain trade security issues as per risk assessments (e.g., C-TPAT, AEO, etc.);
  • Assist in conducting training on global laws and regulations as well as company’s policy and procedures to company associates and new hires with close partnership with Danaher Corporate and Dx Platform;
  • Consults with Dx Platform Global Trade Compliance team, Dx legal counsel and Danaher Global Trade Compliance team as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.


Qualifications:

  • A Minimum of a BS or BA degree and a minimum of 8-10 years import/export administration and 2-3 years of supervisor or management experience; is required.
  • Advanced degree, license or certifications in a relevant field, such as Int’l Business or Trade, Law, etc. is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of US, China and EU import/export compliance regulations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HTS/ECCN classification, Country of origin determination and Custom valuation principles
  • Familiarity and/or experience with lean manufacturing, kaizen, Six Sigma or similar type of continuous improvement principles

  • Solid project management experience, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects with varying deadlines effectively and on time;
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills and ability to act as internal advisor are essential requirements for this position;
  • Must be able to clearly and concisely articulate findings and summarize recommendations written and verbally;
  • Strong executive presence and presentation skills to all levels of company including senior management;
  • Has a track record for delivering results, taking ownership and being accountable;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to execute strategic goals;
  • Must be committed to integrity, ethics and building strong relationships in a diverse setting;
  • Must be able to work effectively in high-intensity/high-performance environment;
  • Strong people management skills required;

  • Travel: Up to 30% domestic and international travel.

This position is located in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Must work onsite.
