Summary/Objective
Responsible for ensuring the integrity of underwriting and compliance activities and processes.
Essential Functions
- Developing pricing models for new and existing business consistent with group actuarial results, state regulation, and the appetites and goals of the Board of Directors
- Collecting and analyzing all data needed to effectively underwrite new business
- Collaborating with internal and external resources to determine viability of new and existing business
- Maintaining strong relationships with brokers, sales representatives, loss control personnel, Excess Insurance carriers, and internal departments such as compliance, marketing, finance, IT, and customer service
- Reporting underwriting data that is meaningful for audiences at all levels
- Reviewing annual payroll audits for inconsistencies that may affect the overall account risk and adjusting the current year to offset any additional risk through classification, payroll adjustment, rating, or revocation
- Ongoing department training to ensure all staff are knowledgeable and have the resources they need to effectively perform within the department
- Formulating strategies to reduce claims and loss exposures through close communication with loss control and implementing these programs
- Submitting data required for financial audits, compliance audits, and other regulatory audits
- Compiling underwriting status reports for presentation at monthly Board meetings and at mandated annual Group meetings
- Facilitating Excess/Reinsurance renewals
- Employee related duties such as hiring, firing, employee reviews, managing time off requests, etc.

Supervisory Responsibility
- This position is directly responsible for leading managers of the division and indirectly responsible for all employees within the division.
Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
