  • POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director, EHS will establish and lead Cepheid’s global EHS program, and develop and implement EHS compliance and EHS risk management processes for Cepheid worldwide, drive Cepheid EHS performance improvement, mentor and motivate Cepheid associates with EHS management responsibility at the facility level, influence Opco leadership, and integrate EHS into DBS.
The Director, EHS will also play a key role in support of EHS activities related to acquisitions, both during the due diligence phase and during post-acquisition integration of acquired businesses.
The Director, EHS will coordinate initiatives related to property risk management, product environmental compliance, energy management, and corporate social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement a global EHS management program for Cepheid that ensures full compliance with applicable laws, regulations and customer requirements.
  • Assess and cost-effectively manage EHS-related risks with the long-term objective to eliminate hazards and further reduce risk.
  • Establish property risk management, product environmental compliance, worker’s compensation claims management programs.
  • Use Danaher Business Systems fundamentals, processes and tools to embed EHS into business operations.
  • Develop and implement Cepheid EHS audit and oversight process for our facilities with EHS significance.
  • Remain up-to-date and conversant with relevant laws, regulations and other statutory requirements that impact EHS across Cepheid.
  • Manage all Cepheid, Danaher and customer EHS audits, develop action plans to resolve findings, and implement countermeasures promptly and effectively.
  • Serve as the Cepheid contact for government agencies, the Danaher point of contact for the Cepheid, and our representative on the Danaher EHS Operations Leadership Council (“EHSOLC”).
  • Provide leadership on EHS issues within Cepheid, assist top management in understanding business impacts of EHS issues thereby enabling prudent allocation of resources and decision-making.
  • Mentor associates with EHS responsibilities at Cepheid facilities and provide input to performance appraisals form these associates.
  • Develop and manage the delivery of EHS training to associates.

Relationships

Success in this role is highly-dependent on the ability to forge good working relationships with managers and associates within Cepheid, with Danaher EHS, peers from other Danaher OpCos, and with government agency representatives. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Cepheid operations managers
  • Cepheid leadership
  • Danaher EHS
  • Danaher EHSOLC members
  • Regulatory agency representatives
  • Associates throughout the business

TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES: (REQUIRED)

  • Complete all assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time
  • For people managers, ensure your associates attend and complete all required trainings satisfactorily and on time.

  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience (in years):

  • Bachelor’s degree with 14+ years of experience OR

Master’s/Doctoral degree with 12+ years of experience
AND
4+ years managing people

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in managing EHS or similar programs at the facility and enterprise level, a proven track record of driving the EHS agenda in a multi-site, global manufacturing organization, and possess the ability to engage the workforce at all levels in the journey to build a strong EHS culture and a collaborative team-oriented approach to EHS management across the enterprise.
  • Candidates must have operational or business management experience, and experience with lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
  • EHS experience, including working-level project leadership and department or functional area management is preferred.
  • Experience with acquisitions and risk and liability management is preferred.
  • Candidates should have an undergraduate degree in science or engineering; an MBA or graduate degree are preferred.
  • EHS-related licenses, certifications and/or membership in EHS professional associations are desired.
