Job Objectives:
We are seeking a candidate that has a background in Commercial Package underwriting with strong technical underwriting skills specifically in Property Lines of Business. The Vice President will be responsible for generating an underwriting profit from the Programs that make up his/her portfolio. The Vice President will plan, organize, control and manage all aspects of the business relationship between the Company and its Program Administrators and collaborate with the SVP and Head of Programs in the overall administration of the Programs within his/her portfolio. In addition, the Vice President will also be responsible for managing PML and property aggregations and work with the CUO and Head of Programs to establish guidelines around CAT management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Visit and communicate with partners on a regular basis to maintain good working relationship. Should make best efforts to be aware of and address any concerns or issues partner may have.
- Evaluate and respond to special acceptance requests in a timely manner.
- Monitor rating via audits, reports, ongoing dialogue, and any other feasible method to assure proper adherence to Rating Plans and meeting of corporate rate goals.
- Responsible for ongoing audits of each partnership to assure adherence to underwriting guidelines and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate and consultation with Claims, Accounting, Actuarial, IT, internal audit and Legal departments as appropriate.
- Monitor the portfolio and report periodically to senior management with respect to growth, results and composition.
- Maintain overview of markets and industry developments through traveling, attending industry conferences and seminars and other means to optimize the underwriting and portfolio strategy.
- Set and maintain budgets on assigned programs.
- Attend client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners and other social outings as applicable.
- Assist Department is establishing Underwriting Guidelines for Property, inclusive of restrictions for catastrophe exposed risks.
- Assist Senior Management in analyzing and placing of Property Reinsurance.
- Assist Department is establishing monitoring tools for Property aggregates.
- Assist Department in attracting and vetting new business opportunities. This shall include review of the proposed portfolio of business, including understanding of what risks are being underwritten, what coverages and limits are needed, how rating is developed, how risk selection is made and how business is obtained.
- Participate in the due diligence process to determine/confirm acceptability for new partnerships.
- Work with senior management with respect to strategic and financial planning, budgeting, and monthly projections and reporting.
- Create and execute the business plan through interaction with senior management for the development, management and expansion of a portfolio.
Qualifications
- University degree.
- 10 – 12 years Property underwriting experience.
- Established relationships with brokers/markets/companies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and quantitative skills.
- Ability to work to deadlines and prioritize tasks.
- Ability and willingness to work outside normal office hours as required.
- Ability to travel.
- Professional designation such as CPCU, ACII or similar.
