In alignment with this strategy, Barnes Group is seeking a Vice President of Advanced Research & Development to lead and manage our fundamental, applied and converging technology research and developments efforts to accelerate the long-term, profitable growth of our businesses.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop new processes and procedures to implement our Converging Technology framework to include strategy, processes, resource planning & budgets, organizational structure, information systems, R&D metrics and targets.
- Drive the development and creation of innovative new products leveraging material, software, hardware and sensor technologies that are fully aligned and support the execution of the five-year growth strategies for our businesses and also separates us from the competition – positioning us “ahead of the curve” as market leaders.
- Ownership and management of Applied and Fundamental R&D from “idea” (Stage Gate 1) to commercialization using OKR’s as our internal progress and results tracking system.
- Effectively lead and facilitate cross-functional science / engineering development coordination globally across multiple, diverse work streams and projects.
- Negotiate and manage multiple program technical requirements with internal and external customers on a global scale.
- Track and communicate technical development status and risks with the leadership and customer management teams to drive awareness and alignment within the business.
- Identify and resolve scientific and engineering issues that arise within the business, supporting our strategic customer initiatives globally. Lead post-mortem process to ensure common understanding and awareness and drive standards.
- Engage the development resources required to execute all aspects of design and validation.
- Coordinate scientific / engineering development and validation plans aligned to program management within the Strategic Business Units (SBUs). Ensure adherence to scientific / engineering processes (requirements, management, release planning, change management, design, and validation)
- Aligned to the overall brand strategy, build the company’s brand recognition by showcasing technological achievements at scientific / industry conferences and through publications in peer – reviewed journals.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in leading global R&D teams is required.
- Advanced knowledge of sensors, materials, electrochemistry and algorithm computation.
- Experience with Objectives with Key Results (OKR’s) system for R&D metrics and targets.
- Experience driving intellectual property along with a track record of grant writing and securing awards successfully across the globe.
- Proven track record of launching into the market and commercializing new products.
- Experience with SPICE compliant projects.
- Demonstrated experience with APQP.
- Strong leadership and people engagement skills; leads by example using leadership effectiveness (EI). Develops effective working relationships which foster integrity, trust and respect.
- Effectively communicate and share information, knowledge and expertise with all levels of the organization.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
Education Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science or Chemical Engineering required.
