As an integral part of the People team, the Senior Director (SD), People Partnership provides strategic and tactical consultation for ASPCA leaders and staff in order to optimize talent, performance, and our culture. The SD, People Partnership delivers critical value by leading a team of 5 who 1) foster leadership success as a proactive thought partner anticipating and influencing organizational people priorities and serving as a consultant during periods of change management, and 2) implement employee engagement strategies to foster an environment rooted in the ASPCA’s core values and improve retention of our people. Through leadership of the People Partnership team, the SD contributes to the vision that our people love to work at the ASPCA, strive to reach our goals, and are fulfilled throughout their careers. The SD, People Partnership reports directly to the VP, People Operations and Partnership and will be part of a leadership team within the People Team.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Provide Vision, Leadership, and Management for the People Partnership Team (50%)

  • Directly manage, coach, and develop 5 People Partners across the country; total team is 6 including the Senior Director
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports
  • Consistently utilize ASPCA developmental tools and conduct yearly reviews of direct reports to measure progress and support professional development
  • Support the hiring process for People Team positions as needed, involving all key stakeholders in hiring processes
  • Ensure People Partnership team is focused on the areas of highest impact to improve staff experience including acting with Core Values in mind, goal-setting, feedback conversations, challenging interpersonal situations, and any other people-related decision-making
  • Articulate the strategic vision for People Partnership and manage execution against meaningful goals and metrics
  • Identify and monitor portfolios for People Partners to ensure the entire organization has a partner who knows their business unit needs and can take the time needed to support their people priorities
  • Oversee People Partnership engagement with department leaders and bring a cross-functional view where needed
  • Work closely with other People team leaders to ensure that internal clients People Team goals, initiatives and projects across multiple HR disciplines, including, but not limited People Partnership team collaborates effectively within and across departments so that internal clients experience smooth and high-quality service from all subteams of the People Team (e.g. Talent Acquisition, Compensation, etc.)

I mprove Culture and Management through Organizational Expertise and Trusting Relationships (30%)

  • Build a strong understanding of all ASPCA operations, structures, and team cultures to influence organizational people priorities and align People Partnership work against those priorities
  • Utilize deep relationships with organizational leaders across the organization to champion ASPCA culture and values and identify opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with our department leaders – managers who manage most of our people across the organization
  • Act as a confidante and consultant to all levels of leadership to enable improvement of manager capacity and effectiveness
  • Provide both employees and managers guidance on communication, conflict resolution, and engaging in professional development and career pathing

Provide Leadership within the People Team (20%)

  • Act as a thought leader for the People Team to help drive our People team strategy and priorities
  • Own/guide miscellaneous People team projects to ensure best-in-class team operations such as embedding of Core Values, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and our employee engagement survey
  • Streamline People team engagement by building strong relationships with legal, finance, internal communications, and People-team specialists – clarifying division of labor where needed
  • Build strong platforms for communication and staff development through partnerships with Strategy & Research, Internal Communications and Learning & Development

Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop strong relationships across a diverse client base, while establishing trust and credibility with employees at all levels
  • Ability to partner with, engage and influence organization leaders
  • Must possess excellent communication (both oral and written), and coaching skills
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed
  • 25% travel to multiple ASPCA locations across the U.S

Nice to Haves

  • Experience working at an organization with at least 500 employees
  • Experience working in a distributed workforce

Qualifications:

5+ years experience with and demonstrated success as a team leader

Language:

English

Education and Work Experience:

Bachelors, High School Diploma (Required)

At least 3 years of HR/People Generalist experience, with at least 7 years of related experience required, Experience engaging in discussions around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strongly preferred, Familiarity and comfort with employment laws in the United States
