As an integral part of the People Team, the Senior Director (SD), Learning & Development (L&D) leads the ASPCA’s national learning function to maximize the ability of our people to learn, grow, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to our mission. The SD, L&D delivers critical value by leading a team of three who: 1) define and evolve our talent development approach, 2) curate and deliver learning solutions aligned with the organization’s strategic objectives and employee career goals , and 3) provide talent, design and organizational development consulting across the organization in support of cross-functional and external priorities and growth . Through leadership of the L&D team, the SD contributes to the vision that our people love to work at the ASPCA, strive to reach our goals, and are fulfilled throughout their careers. The Senior Director position reports directly to the VP, Talent Management and is part of the Leadership Team within the broader People Team.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Provide Vision, Leadership, and Management for the Learning and Development Team (50%)
- Directly manage, coach, and develop 3 L&D team members, and 1 intern, distributed across the country; total team is 5 including the Senior Director
- Ensure Learning & Development team is focused on the areas of highest impact to build organizational talent including onboarding, performance management, job shadowing, curriculum design and delivery in support of our behavioral competencies, manager development and leadership development
- Articulate the strategic vision for L&D and manage execution against meaningful goals and metrics
- Continually refine a learning strategy for the ASPCA aligned with organizational objectives, growth, and people data; translate that strategy into annual plans and projects with measurable outcomes
- Lead the development of all learning technology platforms including any integrations within Workday
- Own L&D engagement with department leaders to bring a cross-functional view where needed
- Consistently leverage ASPCA developmental tools and resources to conduct regular one-on-one meetings, feedback conversations and annual performance reviews of direct reports; measure progress to goals and guide professional development
- Cultivate strong collaborative relationships with People Partners (HRBPs) to inform and deploy learning solutions.
Design and Deliver Prioritized Learning Opportunities (30%)
- Lead ongoing learning needs analysis, design, development, assessment, implementation, communication, and evaluation of learning programs to ensure alignment with enterprise strategies
- Partner with organizational leadership to clarify learning and development needs and design/source appropriate programs to address leadership, managerial, professional, functional, and technical knowledge building
- Identify, research and implement best practice learning solutions and technologies to drive organizational learning and performance (inclusive of enterprise-wide Workday integration)
- Develop and implement high impact employee development strategies for development of individual contributors, managers, department heads and high potential talent, to improve the organization’s capability to drive and deliver business results and boost individual performance
- Design customized development interventions to accelerate growth of the current and future leader successor talent pools and address critical development needs
Provide Leadership within the People team (20%)
- Act as a thought leader for the People Leadership Team to help drive our People team strategy and priorities
- Own/guide and participate in miscellaneous People team projects to ensure best-in-class team operations such as embedding of core values, diversity, equity and inclusion, and employee engagement survey
- Streamline People engagement by building strong relationships with legal, finance, internal communications, and People-team specialists – clarifying division of labor where needed
- Partner with, and serve as advisor to, key enterprise leaders to identify key competencies and gaps for business-critical roles, develop plans and key talent programs to close gaps and build critical capabilities

Qualifications:
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time as needed
- Ability to partner, engage and influence organization leaders
- Must possess excellent communication (both oral and written), and coaching skills
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

Qualifications:
5+ years experience with and demonstrated success as a team leader, 7-10 years of experience required

Bachelors, High School Diploma (Required)
BA/BS degree-or -equivalent applied experience with a HS diploma or GED 7+ years of related experience required
