Position Summary
Responsible for all financial aspects of a portfolio of moderate to highly complex projects. Provide financial tracking, analyses and reporting needs to project managers, group finance team, and management. Ensure compliance with the Bank’s project methodology and policies in the areas of budgeting, payment processing, capital planning, and forecasting. Communicate regularly with project teams to understand impacts to financial forecast and budget during execution of work in order make appropriate adjustments and report such modifications. Creates and maintains financial inputs within Clarity. Takes the costs and benefit information supplied by project managers to apply financial guidelines and develop the cost benefit analysis for individual project efforts. Provide project financials during discussions around appropriations, budget, and forecast at group participation meetings, in addition to making recommendations for adjustments to meet financial targets. Complete assigned financial certifications and reconciliations for portfolio cost centers. Provide guidance and direction to junior-level analysts.
Major Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the management of all financial data in Clarity for an assigned portfolio of projects across the Business Unit.
- Maintain current and accurate data in Clarity surrounding financial activities on projects within portfolio.
- Monitors the budgets and forecasts at both the individual project and portfolio levels.
- Advises Project Managers and management as spend approaches budget; records approved changes to budget and makes appropriate updates to financial reporting.
- Produce financial reports and conduct financial control for all work efforts within assigned project portfolio.
- May include presentations to project teams or management on the financial health of the work effort or portfolio.
- Process/coordinate the submission of project invoices to ensure proper accounting treatment, General Ledger/Responsibility Center recorded, review by appropriate body to validate charges, and signing approvals are obtained. Review financial transactions in General Ledger to ensure posting accuracy and research/resolve posting errors or unidentified items.
- Produce and present timely and accurate periodic financial reports including trends, variances, and performance tracking at the individual project and portfolio level.
- Ensures data is interpreted appropriately by consumers – project team members, as needed; PMO, Finance team, senior management of business partners.
- Assist department manager with division portfolio reporting and prioritization processes across all business areas including ad hoc reporting to Executive Management as needed.
- Take the cost and benefit information received from Project Managers, apply financial treatments and guidelines to the information, and create the Cost Benefit Analysis for inclusion in the business case.
- May be asked to attend and address financial questions during the presentation of business cases to senior management.
- Consult with Controllers, Project Managers, Finance and others on finance policies as they relate to project capitalization, project expense accruing, amortization of expenses, and other relevant topics as encountered.
- Liaise with group Finance team on the allocation of expenses and benefits for approved projects.
- Complete monthly EIP (Expenditures in Process) and GL certifications for Responsibility Centers of assigned portfolio.
- Provide recommendations to improve the project financial processes – invoice processing, forecasting, certifications, appropriations planning, and Clarity data management.
- May provide work direction or training for junior analysts.
- Additional duties and special projects, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Typically requires a degree from a four-year college (e.g. B.A., B.S.) and typically 7+ years of experience as a Financial Analyst OR equivalent, comparable experience.
- Requires the ability to develop and design complex spreadsheets, databases or report formats (based on business need) to be used by various levels of management within the organization.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- Requires experience with Clarity PPM.
- Requires experience providing financial business case planning support to project or line managers.
- Previous Project Management experience preferred.
