The Molinari Juvenile Shelter (MJS) is a fifteen (15) bed, short-term residential program for youth who are in crisis and in need of a temporary placement. Staff at the MJS provide a structured, therapeutic environment where residents can work closely with family members, court-services, schools, police and others to address their problems. What you will do:

  • Asses youth who enter the facility and determine immediate and ongoing needs;
  • Facilitate family partnership meetings and develop a service program that coordinates resources with parents, schools, court-services, police, and other relevant agencies;
  • Manage the ongoing service plan and document progress in various reports;
  • Educate resident and family members about additional community-based resources and services to prevent future problems;
  • Facilitate pro-social groups with youth on topics such as “anger management,” “thinking barriers” and “managing instant gratification;”
  • Address behavioral issues and counsel residents on making appropriate choices;
  • Create transition plans for youth discharging from the facility;
  • Document resident’s plans and progress towards goals for agency records, court records and other reporting systems;
  • Periodically testify in court to provide case summaries and service recommendations.

  • Ability to work as a team member and collaboratively deliver services that address the whole child;
  • Compassion and understanding combined with the ability to maintain a structured, therapeutic environment for youth who will test your boundaries;
  • Ability to develop a positive relationship that fosters understanding and change;
  • Knowledge and experience developing and monitoring service plans that motivate youth to make better choices;
  • Understanding of juvenile court system, school resources, mental health services, police procedures and other service agencies;
  • Ability to clearly communicate both orally and in writing and document your work in various records;
  • Ability to manage yourself independently and with little supervision;
  • Initiative to develop creative solutions to help residents address complex problems;
  • Enthusiasm for helping youth who frequently don’t express their appreciation.
  • Ability to perform physical restraint using “Handle with Care” method.


What we require:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field; and 1-2 years professional experience in family services work, social work, mental health or a closely related field; or a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services; and 3-5 years of professional experience in family services work, social work, mental health, or a closely related field.

Schedule: 37.5 hours: Monday – Friday, some evenings/weekends may be required

ENTRY SALARY: $62,613.00 – $92,293.00/yr

NOTE: The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment background check and physical. All DSS staff members are required to provide emergency human services work in the event of an emergency disaster.

Education and Experience

Special Requirements

Must be willing to respond to emergency situations in an unknown and/or potentially dangerous environment;
Must be willing to work outside normal working hours in order to respond to both routine and emergency situations;
and to share 24 hour on-call responsibilities;
Must pass DMV record check;
Must possess a valid driver’s license;
Must pass criminal background check (as of 12/04/01);
Must pass a Child Protective Services check (as of 12/04/01).
