This senior level position reports to the Associate Dean of Master’s Programs at the Robert H. Smith School of Business and is responsible for overseeing Smith’s Online Programs Office.

The Managing Director is responsible for the overall success of the Online Programs Office, to include the operational excellence and growth of current and future online programs, extensive business development to launch new online programs, budgetary oversight and management of a team of 5-10 direct report staff.
The Managing Director will be responsible for building and managing strategic partnerships, assessing viability of new programs and offerings, and ensuring enrollment and revenue targets are met or exceeded for online programs.
In coordination with the Associate Dean of Master’s Programs, this position will have responsibility for the strategic direction of the unit, including managing and growing online programs, working with faculty, determining new program offerings, and sourcing subject matter experts.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader with significant management experience, preferably in higher education organizations and in online education specifically.
Candidate must be a strong communicator who is comfortable dealing with all levels of the organization, engaging in multiple business development opportunities, as well as be a leader who can navigate the challenges of organizational change and process improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree and minimum 12 years of progressively responsible management, business development, or relevant higher education experience.
OR
Masters degree and minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible management, business development, or relevant higher education experience.
Minimum 5 years experience directing programs and supervising staff, demonstrated ability to design, develop, market, sell and implement online education programs and services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to design, develop, market, sell and implement online education programs and services.
Strong experience in the development and leading strategic growth initiatives.
Strong business, financial and strategic acumen, and critical thinking skills
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and activities, as well as manage multiple and competing priorities under tight deadlines
Proven ability to analyze complex problems and communicate effectively (both verbally & written) with multiple internal and external constituents
Extraordinary relationship building and people skills
Ability to engage, inform, motivate and develop staff
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or, extensive reading. Must be able to travel to meetings around campus and the State. Must be able to lift ten pounds.
