Job Description:
The Logistics Director is responsible for directing all Transportation operations and the movement of product both to the Warehouse and to Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma partners and customers. This position will oversee day to day operations and coordinate driver and fleet utilization to optimize both deliveries as well as OTR operations. The Logistics Director will also lead the Transportation department in formulation, implementation and continuous improvement strategies to achieve the Food Bank’s short and long-range strategic objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • The duties and responsibilities of this position will be performed in alignment with our Core Values of Vitality, Innovation and Stewardship:
  • Oversee all day to day Food Bank transportation and logistical operations.
  • Provide unified vision across multiple areas and ensure collaboration between staff to optimize resources.
  • Collaborate across all Food Bank programs, departments and operations to develop and implement supply chain strategies that serve the hunger needs of the community, while utilizing best practices to achieve optimal resource utilization.
  • Prepare detailed monthly cost analysis and quarterly budget projections to ensure control, understanding of expenditures and corroboration of fiscal strategy with the organizational direction.
  • Analyze operational capacity and recommend tactical process improvements, staffing requirements, and long-range strategic investments in assets.
  • Drive distribution operations and logistics strategies that deliver reductions in operating expenses, enabling increased volume of meals served with available assets, staffing and budget.
  • Ensure that the Food Bank is operating at peak efficiency and providing outstanding customer service to internal customers, agencies, programs and donors with any concerns tracked, reviewed and responded to in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Lead necessary steps for continuous improvement from timely investigations of delays and errors in donor pick-up and agency deliveries and collaborate with the Operations Help Desk to substantiate and communicate improvements.
  • Develop and maintain a safe and sanitary working environment for staff by ensuring compliance to administrative policies, procedures, safety rules and governmental guidelines.
  • Manage driver and departmental compliance in accordance with company policy as well as FMCSA and DOT regulations to minimize liability and safety risk.
  • Guide the development and implementation of Transportation related goals, performance metrics, and performance management processes incorporating organizational strategies and priorities.
  • Establish quality recruitment, selection, training, motivation, coaching, and mentoring of transportation drivers and assigned staff to maintain a fully staffed and trained department.
  • Cultivate ongoing guidance and training for staff and drivers through regular meetings, education opportunities and performance reviews to maximize driver performance.
  • Coordinate the use and maintenance of all fleet vehicles, both leased and owned, and provide recommendations for ongoing asset strategy and utilization.

Education and Work Experience:

  • 5 or more years’ experience in logistics management
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Higher education preferred
  • Valid driver’s license (Class A CDL preferred) with clean driving record

Physical Demands:

  • The physical demands of the position will vary from sedentary to medium work based on the duties of the day.

  • Work involves occasional maneuvering at heights at or above six feet.
  • Utilizes multi-limb coordination to balance on even or uneven surfaces, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, and walk, reach over shoulders or below the knees.
  • Auditory attention and hearing sensitivity is required, as candidates must possess the ability to distinguish various sounds that serve as key maintenance indicators.


Work Environment:

  • The work environment will vary from no exposure to some exposure based on the duties of the day.
  • Some exposure to extreme weather changes and humidity/moisture relative to atmospheric condition variations. Includes exposure to extreme summer and winter temperatures, as well as rain, sleet, and snow.
  • Possible exposure to dust, fumes, smoke, excessive noise, and/or vibrations.
  • Work generally performed in an industrial environment (indoor or outdoor) with various hazards and noise exposure.
  • The job also requires availability for on-call schedule, occasional unscheduled call-outs and extended workdays and/or workweeks.
