This role will lead the Product Profitability and Financial Modeling team as we look to grow Individual Life insurance into a profitable, vibrant and sustainable growth engine for EQH.
The Product Profitability and Financial Modeling team is responsible for in-force management and actuarial financial oversight. This individual will play a key role in the development and implementation of the strategic direction for the Individual Life Insurance line of business.
The evolving EQH financial framework and challenging economic market require us to develop new approaches and models for understanding and guiding our business. The Product Profitability and Financial Modeling team must have an unrelenting focus on all elements affecting the financial outcome for Individual Life Insurance including but not limited to sales expectations, economic conditions, investment strategy, inforce projections and new business assumptions.
This team will understand and project financial results for inforce and expected new business under a variety of scenarios â allowing management to develop strategy and make informed decisions leading to optimal results. The team is also responsible for managing inforce business consistent with contractual obligations, regulatory requirements and management expectations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise, train and provide career development for a team of actuaries and product managers
- Establish and maintain a new product development financial framework including:
o Partner with Pricing team to develop, document, maintain and validate acceptable pricing models for individual life product development
o Assumption Setting
o Review Value of New Business (VNB) experience and insure the latest trends are reflected in pricing
o New Product Pricing Profitability Review
o Ensuring Corporate sign-off
- Inforce Product Management
o Dividend Scale, Credited Interest Rates and other Nonguaranteed Elements
o Product and Commission Exceptions
o Prioritization of administrative IT mortgages and Day 2 initiatives
o Management of Post Level Term
o Remediation Support
- Partner with Risk, Finance and Investments to develop optimal ALM and Investment strategy
- Project long term line of business financial results and develop framework to assess alternative strategies
- Monitor ongoing financial results
o Partner with Finance to interpret short- and long-term GAAP earnings
o Leverage metrics and data to document critical issues, assumptions and methodologies
o Inform management of trends
o Assess recommend strategic or tactical actions
o Ensure consistency with pricing and financial projection models
o Near Issue Sales Tracking
Qualifications & Candidate profile
- Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
- 10+ years of actuarial work experience
- Effective management and leadership
- In depth knowledge of:
o product pricing
o actuarial modeling
o valuation
o life insurance investment strategies
o life insurance risk management
o Statutory and GAAP financial reporting
- Effective at matrix management
o Collaborative style that embodies teamwork across many different operating units within EQH.
o Ability to influence across multi-disciplinary teams
- Ability to distinguish, understand and communicate factors affecting financial results
- Ability to think outside the box with ability to get to “Win/Win” solutions to complex problems
