Job Description Summary

The Finance Director supporting the Specimen Management business group reports directly to the VP Finance, IDS and has a strong linkage to the Vice President of the business group. The Finance Director is expected to provide the necessary financial and business support to the business group leader and the platform team. The Finance Director is also expected to be an integral member of the platform team. There is one associate reporting to the Finance Director.


Job Description

Responsibilities and expectations include:


Service Delivery and Business Partnering

  • Being an active and integral member of the platform team, which includes attending and participating in team meetings, providing advice and support to the business group leader and platform team members, being actively involved in the decision making process, contributing to the strategy development of the business group, providing financial support and analyses for the platform and establishing yourself as a business partner to the business group leader
  • Providing oversite and guidance to direct reports (the core team finance members) on all GPDS projects within the business group, which includes attending regular meetings, preparing/reviewing financial analyses, providing advice and support to the core team leader and core team members, and being involved in the decision making process
  • Preparing & assisting in the development of budgets, quarterly projections and the Annual Strategic Review for the Specimen Management business group on a global basis and with a detailed focus on the US
  • Understanding and providing analysis of the operating results on a global basis with a detailed focus on the US including the platform spend in the US (ex. marketing & R&D project spend); present operating results at business group team meetings
  • Coordinating the global S&OP process for the Specimen Management business group in conjunction with operations and marketing; attending demand consensus and supply review meetings to ensure alignment between demand, supply and financial projections
  • Working closely with plant operations to understand costing trends, capital requirements, supply issues, cost reduction initiatives, budget/projection matters, etc.; preparing or coordinating the preparation of major capital requests for the business group
  • Providing financial and business support to platform initiatives such as acquisitions, divestitures, business alliances, special projects, etc.
  • Identifying assets within the platform that could potentially be impaired; preparing or coordinating the preparation of the necessary impairment analyses on a quarterly basis
  • Assisting in the month-end closing process

Requirements

The Finance Director must possess a reasonably high level of finance and accounting expertise. Accounting research will be occasionally required. The ability to develop relationships with associates from other regions and functions will be essential in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

  • B.S. degree in accounting or finance
  • MBA / CPA or working toward qualification is desirable
  • 10+ years’ relevant work experience in Financial Planning, Business Analytics, Controller or related roles
  • Strong leadership skills – ability to lead and serve as an effective team member in a large organization including planning, developing, organizing, directing, managing, and evaluating personnel
  • Candidate should be well organized and possess good analytical and communication skills; analytical skills should include a strong understanding of valuation metrics such as IRR, MIRR, net present value, terminal value, payback period, return on invested capital, etc.
  • Candidate must be highly proficient working with MS Excel and reasonably proficient with other common applications such as MS Word and MS PowerPoint; working knowledge of SAP, Business Intelligence, HFM & BPC are a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team environment
  • Candidate must be willing to occasionally travel both domestically and internationally; the estimated travel commitment is 10-20%
