Supervises and oversees the assigned transportation operations areas and the daily transportation services. Administers and analyzes procedures, guidelines and measurement criteria governing operations of the school buses. Develops and implements procedures and processes to ensure efficient and effective transportation services to students. Actively monitors, reviews and corrects performance issues that involve Transportation Specialists as well as the employees assigned to them. As a senior team member of the department, the Operations Director must provide professional leadership, promote quality customer service and make solid and timely decisions to ensure safe and compliant transportation services.
- Provides daily leadership for and supervision of the Transportation Specialists and area office staff; establishes clear performance objectives, guidelines, and procedures to perform job duties.
- Serves as mentor in regards to supervision, management, customer service, personnel actions and other functions related to the position to ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws and practices.
- Develops, implements, distributes and modifies, as needed, performance standards and guidelines for school bus drivers and operations.
- Reviews, recommends and ensures accountability of personnel, equipment and other resources needed and utilized by the transportation area offices.
- Produces, compiles and analyzes daily, weekly and monthly reports demonstrating levels of assigned staff performance.
- Oversees implementation of changes to school bus operations resulting from changes to federal, state, and local laws and BOE policies. Recommends staff position changes, additions, or deletions to ensure the best possible level of service.
- Investigates and resolves internal and external customer concerns; correct any deficiencies in operation to avoid repeated issues.
- Attends district meetings as it relates to transportation services to include principal meetings, community forums, and/or district planning meetings as assigned by the Executive Director.
- In conjunction with the Routing and Scheduling Manager, assists in the development, design and implementation of criteria for the establishment of bus stops, runs and routes.
