Founded in 2011 in Austin, TX, Earth Native Wilderness School helps students build lifelong connections to the outdoors. We do this through offering unique, fun, and informative courses that not only enliven and but also lead our students down an incredible path of discovery and greater self-reliance.

The school offers numerous courses and guided nature experiences that facilitate connection to nature and the outdoors in students of all ages. Courses offered by Earth Native Wilderness School include: wilderness survival, self-reliance, sustainability education, appreciation for and stewardship of natural systems, wildlife ecology and tracking, animal behavior, edible and medicinal plant studies, land navigation, rite of passage, natural building techniques, knowledge of place, sensory awareness, primitive hunting, indigenous living skills, and mentoring.

Position Summary

Earth Native Wilderness School is seeking an experienced, outgoing, competent, organized and motivated applicant to direct/oversee our environmental education youth programs. Approximately 1500 students attend our youth programs and classes each year and we offer 300+ days of youth programming annually. Work in various locations in Austin and Bastrop, TX

Responsibilities

  • Management of all youth program operations
  • Collaborate with a team of instructors and directors to design, implement and grow cohesive and exciting youth programs for youth ages 3-16
  • Management and oversight ofthe youth programs staff (Between 12-18 staff members)
  • Communicate with parents and customersregarding program curriculum, logistics, individual student progress and customer relation issues
  • Help maintain a safe and functional school learning and work environment
  • Management of youth programs budget
  • Assist with outreach on social media and at local events, including marketing and creation of marketing materials
  • Assist with staff hiring
  • Assist in registration and other office management duties
  • Assist in website updates
  • Coordinatestaffing assignments
  • Coordinates all contract programing
  • Fill in for instructional staff, as needed

REQUIRED Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least two years’ experience as a Program Director or similar position
  • Strong management skills
  • Very strong organizationalskills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Timely communicator
  • Must have experience teaching and managing environmental education programs
  • Professional and caring attitude, ability to work well with a wide range of people
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly enthusiastic, motivated, and self-directed
  • Holds a passion for natured based education
  • Registration system experience or a quick learner
  • Must have a flexible schedule (This is not a M-F, 9-5 position)

Preferred Skills/Training

  • Experience with nature connection mentoring such as Art of Mentoring, Coyote Mentoring, Kamana Naturalist Training Program, or similar place-based mentoring
  • Graduate of (Wilderness Awareness School’s) Anake Leadership program, RDNA Program, AWC Certification Program or similar environmental education program.

Pay

Salary of $50k+ DOE
